Monster Tacs

Do any of you guys have pictures of tacs in your car?
I'm thinking of getting one but I don't want to get
it and not like it and have two huge holes in my dash..

:blob1:

csledd 07-07-2005 09:21 PM

I feel the same way.. I want a tach real bad but I don't want something that has to leave holes on my dash. I was thinking of getting a G-Tech Pro just for the shift light but I dunno how accurate that is.

Badfish 07-08-2005 06:10 AM

what are the advantages have having a new tac, whats wrong with the stock one?

floppy 07-08-2005 06:11 AM

call upr, they have a bracket that mounts next to the ac controls that will hold the tach right out where you need it. leaves no holes and is easy to install. but dont put a monster tach in, you really dont need a tach but if you really want to have one get a 4". i have one mounted on the upr bracket and it looks nice. i think i got it at jegs for $40 and the bracket is around $30.

i put mine in because i drive with my left hand on top of the wheel and it blocks my view of the tach. that's just how i've always driven.

is that the only reason?? cu si see alot of people with tacs...and i dont understand why? does it really make that much of a difference...and doe syours have a shift light on it?

csledd 07-08-2005 06:39 AM

The reason I want one is for track purposes only.. I just want that nice shift light. Reason being that way my shifts can be more consistant and I don't even have to look at the RPMs, I can focus on hitting my shifts (have been having problems there).

why dont you just buy a raptor shift light?

yeah i have a shift light but that's seperate from the tach it's on the left side of the wheel the tach is on the right. my tach is only a 4" tach instead of the huge 5" monster tach's i use the shift light for the track or any other racing but the tach is only for everyday driving like if i have the music up loud and cant really hear the exhaust i watch the tach so i dont stall or something. i dont really need it that much but you dont realize that stuff before you buy it. i i thought i'd use it to help me shift when racing but the shift light works perfect and i never had to take my eyes off the road.

i dunno, I wire from your gauges or seomthign i think?? the most common place i see it is right smack dab in the middle of the guages, behind the steering wheel.... www.raptorperformance.com

same here, it's kinda like you can just feel it in the pedal or something

csledd 07-08-2005 07:00 AM

wiring isn't the problem, I just don't wait it to have to have holes drilled in my dash. I've seen those in A/C vents before, I might think about doing that

csledd 07-08-2005 07:28 AM

I hardly ever run my A/C.. windows down is the way to go! :D

trust me, my car is loud. but my buddy has a 97 ls1 ss camaro with side exhaust (lt headers with open pipes straight to the sides of the car no restrictions at all). and when i raced him i used to hit my rev limiter all the time because i couldnt hear my car over his. so i got the tach and the shift light. i thought i'd use the tach more than the light but i really dont even need the tach anymore. the shift light is all i need because i dont have to take my eyes off the road.

venom 07-08-2005 09:19 AM

Thanks for the info guys definitly going for the shift light only.

yeah, you get a pill kit. it sets what rpm it turns on at.

MineralGT 07-08-2005 08:57 PM

That's a badass shift light...may have to pick one up. Is there anyway MT will be picking these up?

This one's different...it's set with switches...this is from their website...

No adaptors, activation modules,"pills", etc. are needed !

For all # cylinder configurations

Simply turn the two rotary RPM switches for the desired setting, select the cylinder setting to match your vehicle and cycle the power. The new settings are then stored in memory

Here's some good write-ups on 'em...

Mustang How-to Raptor

Ford Muscle How-to Raptor

I plan on getting one sometime this month...tired of bouncing off the rev limiter.

Id deffinetly rather have a shift light over a monster tach. Those are tachy! haha, i made a funny! :laughing1

Those raptor lights come in a huge array of color/led-color combinations.

I got the upr mount to test it with my tach. I'm still not sure if its too much...what do you guys think? the good thing is no holes in the dash if I change my mind and take it out.

Badfish 07-09-2005 02:03 PM
