Follow up to blurred out tags. WTF? RANT
 

Ok I really do not get this crap. I understand why you see it on TV like on Cops so people don't know who's car it is when they see it on TV. But come on guys its the freakin internet. What does the tag have to do with having your car stolen? Nobody is going to see a tag online and go hunt down a car to steal it. Well I am sure there is a chance, but you have a better chance of someone stealing your car around town. I think it is one of the dumbest things I have seen on the internet personally. I guess I should start putting duct tape over my tag when I drive it now so nobody will see it and come back to steal it later. I will just have to explain to the cops "look man I didn't want my car stolen" I know this will tick some of you off but it ticks me off when I see it. WHAT IS THE F-in POINT?????

I third that. It takes some serious connections to see a tag on the net and then be able to hunt down the person where they live and steal the car. So much money, time, effort, to steal a car. If you are going to do anything to anyone's car, dont go cross country. For me, personally, I like to make funny fake tags when I display my car

Well I have to disagree for you! My home site dfstangs.net theft is a big problem! There have been dozen's of forum members that got their car stolen shorty after they post pics and mods for their cars! We have come to the conclusion that lurker/guests are behind this! So blurred out tags help some! Here in the dfw area, mustang theft is at an all time high, and car thieves in dallas frequent chat forums such as dfwstangs!

The simpliest way to steal a car (not joking).
 

Anytime you park your car outside, anywhere, I can get your ride. Is this guy full of crap or what, you ask? ..All I need do is to write down your VIN# located in the dash. Go to a Ford/Linclon/Mercury dealer and explain that I was robbed and my car keys are gone. They will automatically take the VIN# and make a key for you. Thousands of cars are stolen in this manner each year. Are you listening now?? To protect your sweet stang, take a piece of tape (match your dash) and cover the VIN#. There are no states who require you display your VIN#, only be made available when law enforcement officials request to see it, then you tear the tape off and show it (replace the tape when done). This information is from an FBI report (2002) on stopping the exporting of stolen autos. I found this hard to believe and asked a Las Vegas Metro detective if the VIN# must always be displayed and he said "of course it does" and I asked to see it in writing, he (nor his boss) could produce any law prohibiting temporary covering (tape) the VIN# only that it must be "permanently affixed". Fellow stanger, decide for yourself.....

My car has a clicker that deactivates the car from being start up. Ford can duplicate the key..but not the clicker. Unless they have my clicker, they cannot steal my car. though they could steal whats inside it, but what is there? a stock shifter knob, mints, umbrella, backpack, gum, pen, cd's...nothing major... unless the person did damage to the car itself, I dont really worry about anyone getting into my car.

If anyone wants to steel my car, it is sitting in the drivewqay right now with the keys in the ignition and top down. There is not exactly a lot of theft around here. I live in a very safe place. Most of us don't even lock our doors to our homes.

If someone steels my car, please don't bring it back. I would prefer to not get it back and have insurance reimburse me. Then, 2007 Shelby here I come.

I got low jack installed 2 weeks after getting the car...if it does get stolen everything is covered and hopefully I get it back within hours. The Vin# thing is interesting...I would think people who do that might not go through the hassle for a nearly stock mustang, doesn't hurt to take procautions though.

I have to agree with that reasoning.I have full coverage insurance,so go ahead and steal it then I can get a 03/04 Cobra or Mach 1 :)

To be honest, I really don't get the whole car alarm thing or other anti-left devices. The biggest problem with getting a car stolen is just the whole hassle of the thing or having to take a cab home. This is why I pay for insurance. And besides, the discount they give you for having an anti-left device is so little, that it does not seem to pay.

God that is the most BS I'vew ever heard in my entire life. You have to show proof of ownership...My buddy works at a dealership and read your post and laughed his ass off. If people could do that, you could look up a car for sale on line and steal it...nice try :tool:
