I can't wait till it thaws out he in Michigan so the autox can start again I miss it so much. Before it can start I have a few suspension mods to do but with the way the weather is I've got plenty of time.

haha, the slalom cones plus my rear tires got very well acquainted on occasion.

Nice.

Bet those struts/shocks/springs helped you a lot, lol.

This slalom cone was luck to stay on this run. I did manage to just barely run the back tire over the edge of it most runs though. This is the first slalom cone comming out of the corner in the last picture of the first post.

The spring and dampers did help but the SFC's helped just as equally for overall "feel" of the car, made it feel like the front was connected to the rear. You never realize how floppy the Mustang is untill you start stiffen it up.

Damn, I'm so jealous.

I guess a V6 with a lot of suspension work and some bolts ons (or supercharged) + tune would be decent enough for auto-x right?

Would relocating the battery to the trunk help any?

Ok there Tokyo Drift, dont forget you used to drive one too.

In fact, with yer bumper record i think straight lines are what you should shoot for.

lol

I wouldn't even recommend much for performance improvements other than a T-lock, as long as it's manual. Horsepower isn't what helpes you for a autocross course(unless it has huge straights in a big parking lot). The cars that kick ass in AutoX are miatas, minis, MR2s, that kind of stuff. I beleive a v6 could do just as good as a v8, maybe even have an advantage of having less front end weight. As long as you didn't want to run a certain class, lots of suspension work, moving the battery, would help make a better performing mustang. Race tires make a big difference. A good driver is the best mod.
With the few mods I have I am already and Street Mod, but I don't really care about that. It's all about having fun, it's hard to be competative in a Mustang.

Definitely, I picked on alot of gt's and cobra, they got pissed and had me moved to ESP class instead of G-stock because of my intake and tires, It depends alot on the course, but often times the v8 is just a little much for the course. My biggest disadvantage is the fact my car is an auto:mad: , but i did a couple races on stock tires, then went to my 315's talk about sticking to the course, it just held on and cruised around corners,
edit: one race I remember I ran something like a 40.1 & an 03 cobra ran a 39.9, so for a V6 with tires, intake, and exhaust, vs a 03 cobra you can see that hp is not a big affect in autox.

PColav6 02-20-2008 05:55 PM

Alright, and yeah my car is an auto as well :(.

I was planning on swapping in a GT rear end plus new gears and getting an xcal2 to help out with that.

I plan on going to the next couple of races in the area to watch and then start driving in them.

definitely do, and if you can get one of the older more experienced guys out there, see if one will let you ride with him, and if someone will ride with you, then you can watch from inside the car to get a feel for it, as well as get some knowledgeable feed back on how you are driving, where you hands should be, etc.

TRUE. I rode and learned from a guy (with a '98 vortec'd Cobra, full suspension, race rubber, running the same times as turbo'd RX7 and SC'd miatas) for about a year an a half before I started drving, and even then I have him ride with me almost every run. I show up early to the events to stand around with the older guys and just listen and learn. A good driver can make a slow car look killer fast.
