It has the 4v engine from the cobra.
355 gears,
ram air hood(can be bought from many places.
mach 1 decals.
mach 1 rims(shoot, mt sells them for dirt cheap)
polished exhaust tips(cake to weld onto a gt).
grill delete.
mach 1 special interior(which may be more of a pain to get ahold of from anywhere)

now dont get me wrong, the mach 1 is a beautiful and awesome car(nobody better put words in my mouth) and its great to have a limited edition car. but the extra money that one would pay for a mach1 over a gt(aside from the engine swap) is either identical or it would be less expensive to make a mach clone. Just like it costs less to make a saleen/roush clone than to buy it authentic, yet is anyone heavily modifies a saleen/roush, then its blasphemy.. what gives?

I think it's that when someone wants something, especially a car they adore, they usually say "I wouldn't touch a thing. It's Perfect." But then those who do have them are just like the rest of us they want to mod it and make it theirs.

It's the same thing with classic cars "How can you drive that thing, it should be in a museum..."**** that! It's a car it wasn't made to be a museum piece it was made to drive have fun with and do whatever the hell you want to do with it.

But hey that's just my two cents.

Gts and V6ers are a dime a dozen. Mach1, Cobra, Bullitt etc are special edition stangs. Most Mustang lovers would not approve of the exterior body mods as it looks like a Cobra with a Mach 1 pieces or vise versa. It would of been more impressive with engine work, suspension, paint and nice wheels. Same as now but with Mach 1 body panels.

I read on a mustang site, one that had a little historic write up on each generation, that the Mach 1's had the exact same engine as the 98 Cobra's but with the Shaker hood scoop. I thought that was interesting.

And also that the 99-00 Cobras werent really close to the advertised "320" horsepower, they were more like 300 horsepower. I thought it was all interesting.

where'd you read the article? Yeah the 99 cobra issue was why they had the cobra R and then no cobra for 2002, so that they could perfect the engine and put in a lil thing called a bloooooooooooooowerrrrr. the rest is history.

But back to my point. If they threw a 5.4 in the GT, theyd be forced to up the power of a cobra enough to make it worth the price. but in raising the power, they have emissions and standards to meet, which costs money to research, test, and produce. The 5.4 in a GT could make 385 hp, so a cobra with a 5.4 would have to have well over 400(like the new shelby). but with that much power, you are WAY out of the price range that mustang is famous for. Not only that, but Ford wouldnt sell the Ford GT's because for 1/4 of the price, you could get a cobra and swap a pulley and BAM youre over 500 hp and having paid 1/4 of the price and you still have a backseat. Everything has to be in increments.

now look at chevy...they're pretty high in hp but there are no special edition camaros other than SS's, which arent incredibly more powerful than the z28.

Mach 1's do not have the same engine as the 98 cobra.....Ford took the 01 cobra engine and made it better (better cams, higher flowing heads, higher compression, better tuning and exhaust manifolds that are also port-matched to the heads) and threw on a shaker.

I'm saying what I read in this article...
Yea, the 01 Cobra engines were revised, because of so many complaints of the 99 Cobras.

whitethunder46 03-28-2006 09:35 PM

"Intended to be the pride of the Mustang fleet for '99 was the seriously revised Cobra. Originally rated at 320 horsepower (up from 305 in previous-year Cobras), many owners were distressed to discover that their engines were often making less than 300 horsepower. Fueled by Internet bulletin board postings was a class-action suit by Cobra owners demanding refunds or new engines, Ford desperately trying to satisfy them and the suspension of Cobra production during the 2000 model year. While 8,095 Cobras escaped Ford during '99, only 454 made it out during 2000."

"Meanwhile, the new Mach 1 is almost mechanically identical to the 1998 Cobra in specification and uses a normally aspirated version of the 4.6-liter, DOHC engine now rated (again) at 305 horsepower, a solid rear axle and five-speed manual transmission. But it's the eye candy, which includes a flat black painted hood, 17-inch versions of the Magnum 500 wheels from the '60s and, most prominently, the return of the "Shaker" hood scoop, that make it such a special machine."

This is just what I read, quoted and copied.

Oh I know you were just stating what you read, but I just wanted to say it's not true....no biggie.

http://www.mustangmonthly.com/featur...obra_mustangs/

Here is an article in Muscle Mustang & Fast Fords that specifically states the Mach engine isn't the 98 cobra engine.

Now that's a much nicer mach than the other one. I think the Cobra front bumper looks pretty good, but I personally would never make any major body mods to my mach. It just doesn't seem right to make body mods to special edition cars....that's like putting a wing on a bullitt :nono:

That other mach with all the red is just hideous!

LOL that's the same car. That was how it looked before the paint job.

Oh and an update for you guys. It's going to get an exclusive article in MM&FF.

whitethunder46 04-18-2006 07:28 PM

The thing is that car is a show car. Gotta have some flare and uniqueness to be a winner. May not be of someone's taste, but all that work, and done correctly and of quality sits well with judges.

I'm glad some people get it. It's not like this thing is his daily driver. That what his other 7 mustangs are for lol.
