Black Crank Damper bolt for 4V
Randy, this was posted on another forum, it is a clip from SHM's book.
Many of the aftermarket underdrive pulley kits on the market reduce the effectiveness of the damper, resulting in increased harmonics and contributing to oil-pump-gear failures. The factory had a couple of different crankshaft bolts on the 4-valve over the years, and more than one torque specification. Since inadequate clamping load creates oil pump and crank gear problems, it's important to only use the black crank gear bolt (not the inferior silver one), replace the crank-gear-bolt every time it is removed, and torque it to 125 ft-lbs. Well, I've purchased several crank damper bolts for 2Vs and 4Vs from Ford over the years and every one I have purchased through you or the dealership has been the silver bolt. The factory seems to use the black crank damper bolts. Is it possible for you to order the black crank damper bolts? Thanks. |
well the ONLY ones I've ever stocked and sold ARE the black oxide bolts....I haven't seen a silver crank bolt in years and I think it was some ood-ball truck one, not even sure its made anymore...........
