Randy...need your expertise.

Randy, the fuel line to my Suburban is damaged. The clip-end of the fuel line that attaches to the fuel filter is damaged due to road debris.

The car is sitting at a Chevy lot and they are recomending that the entire fuel line be replaced which requires a $260 line and that the trany be dropped so the line can be run. The line is hard plastic and in order to be attached properly, things need to be moved.

Option 1: Pay the $1100 they are asking to fix correclty.

Option 2: Use a simple repair kit I purchased at Napa to cut the fuel line and splice in a new end. This repair is cheap.

I can claim on my insurance, but will still be stuck with the deductable. I am concerned about the safety of making a repair to the fuel line and having it leak and result in a fire or in having to replace the line anyway.

Have you seen these repair kits? Do they work? Is the dealer trying to cover their ass and over-state the weakness of the repair kit?

Thanks for the help.

we often repair the high pressure EFI fuel lines here at the dealership, as Ford makes the repair kits for either splicing the line or putting new ends on it and I've never seen a problem wth it. I dont see a problem doing it on your own either.
