Hi from GA

Hi everyone, I dont currently have a Mustang, but I've been trying to do some research on what one I need to put my focus into! Hoping to learn here, I'd love a Cobra but the price is out of my reach so I'm looking for a GT, I believe its the 6th? gen. 00-04? Looking for that body style, trying to figure out which year is best. I live in Savannah, my toy is a 92 Ford Bronco that I bought when I was 16, had it for the last 3 years, dont plan to sell done all the work myself so I take pride. But Ive been wanting to get into the "go fast" part of automotive and play with it and I need a more "respectable/road friendly" daily driver.

Thanks everyone, hoping to learn some great knowledge.

welcome!!! if i were you i would try and get a 03-04 mach 1 with a 4v becouse the 99-04 GT's with 2v engines need alot of work to go fast.

also maybe look for a cheep 05-09 with a 3v engine.

Hey thanks, I will do that then, how hard is it to find a QUALITY mach? Because I can deffinately believe you they are $$$ to make them a "go fast" because Ive been trying to cruise for videos of just STOCK Gt's and they seem a little rough. They seem to be around the same price range as a GT as well which is nice! Around 9-12k? Quick question, are the 99-04 Mustangs a solid axle in the rear or are they the IRS?

And another question, is there anywhere one of you folks could send me to read the changes in these years? 99-04 Or possibly which year is the best to go after? Thanks !

For 12k get a low mileage 96-98 Cobra. That's what I'm doing.

And welcome!!!!!!!!

only cars with IRS is 03-04 cobras and 99-01 cobras, 99-04 GT's and mach 1's have a solid axle.

Hey thanks everyone. You make it sound like 12k is to high for a 03-04 Mach1? I'd love the Cobra but my biggest problem for me is I most likely will not be able to afford the insurance for my age.

If you can buy it outright then you don't have a problem. I bought my car outright and I have the insurance in my name. I was 17 when I bought it, still am, and I had got my license like one month after I bought the car. So I went into the situation with a new license, me being male, which didn't help, and a sports car. I went with Progressive, which some of my friends say was stupid, but I pay for six month intervals. I paid in full, which saves you some money. I digress. Long story short, I pay 1,700.00 for six months of 50/100/50 coverage, which is double the standard liability coverage.

This means that if I'm found at fault to a accident, 50,000.00 maximum per person involved in the accident, including people in my car. 100,000.00 maximum personal injury, meaning that if three people are hurt and two of those people's injuries extend to 50,000.00 each, that means I'm screwed for the third or even fourth persons injuries. The last 50 means that I'm covered for up to 50,000.00 in property damage, including automobile, someones fence, a telephone poll, etc...

Pretty much if you don't drive like an asshole, you're alright. Now, on the other hand, if you have to finance the car, then you will be forced to put the car under full coverage, "comp & collision". Then you're screwed unless you're parents will help you out.

Well, see if I can find a decent car, and one that I like for under 12, I'm going to try and pay for it in full, although I may have to borrow money and pay it back. I myself am only 19, with progressive with nothing on my record under my parents names. So hopefully it wont be so bad.

Welcome to the site.

If you have a limited budget I would look into either a 96-98 Cobra and do a few basic mods as money allows. Or get a 96-98 GT and do a head and intake swap with the parts from a 99-04 GT this gives it a big power boost and more compression then spray the shit out of it.

Really there are many different things you can do with any mustang even the v6's can be made pretty fast for not to much money.
