FMS aluminum driveshaft
 

Does anyone know what the difference is between the aluminum driveshafts for the 5.0s and the 4.6s? Ford Racing only lists 2 different ones- 1 for 96+ and one I think for 79-95. I would assume it depends on which transmission you have...not what engine you have. The reason I ask is that I have a friend with a 95 who just sold his car and will give it to me at no cost. Is there any way to make it fit?

It will not fit as I had one on my 85 SVO and when I sold it I tried to put it on my 98 GT and it would not fit on the tranny side.

Is there any way to change the yokes to make it fit? I know the guys with automatics can use their stock front yoke with the alum. ds and it works just fine


actually I found my answer...all I have to do is change the slip yokes. Now I just have to figure out how many and part numbers :icon_scra

But is it balanced right for our trannys? Thats all I would be worried about, is unnecessary wobble and such. Cool though if it will work.

Im pretty sure driveshafts balance has nothing to due with the trans, It as to be totally balanced itself. I shortend a driveshaft once and had it welded by a friend to fit a 351 windsor/ c6 trans combo i out of a pickup to put in a 82 Capri back in 1986. He had a machine shop and balanced it for me.

Just get a front yoke that fits and you will be ok.

yeppers balancing has nothing ot do with the tranny.

apparently there is no difference in the 79-95 and 96+ driveshafts except for the yokes...the rest is identical

Back in 1978 when I was racing a 66 Mustang I swapped tranny's and had to have a drive shaft shortend. I took it to a shop that specialized in drive shaft and drive trains and they cut it, welded on a different yoke and balanced it. Worked great and was not expensive. I would think you could do the same.
