odd your tq was lower then the hp on the stage 2

96stang54 10-22-2013 08:08 AM

It is very odd. The supercharger changed the motors personality from torquey to loving the rpms. 177 hp gain for $2500 parts only was a great deal.

Seriously i am definitely going for a diesel 4 cylinder this year

96blackgt54 12-06-2013 10:34 PM

Ok...I'm back....lol

So the last time I posted was page 325..lol! Its great to see the thread still moving! Ive been down in life with illness a life crap itself, but I'm ready to pick up my torch and carry on.

So my build consist of flat top 4v pistons, h-beam rods, lightly ported npi heads, comp npi 274cams, hps 5.4l, frpp shorties, 19lbs injectors, 87octane tune

240rwhp 350rwtq without cams
280rwhp 330rwtq with cams

After about 3months driving fun the car developed a mis. I did the normal checks except compression and all was fine, but still missed. Oh well cold weather was setting in so I just parked the car inside to sit untill finances improved. My life had been flipped around cause of an illness causing us to struggle and depression to boot....long story short....I'm back to wrenching.

I figured out why #3 cylinder was missing. After replacing parts, checking wire conections and scratching my head, I should have done a compression check. Turns out the exhaust modmax valve spring broke. Sheewww that's a relief.

So during the down time I had to sell the hps and a bunch of extra parts to help with bills. This kind has put me back to square one. I'm thinking this go around to port the npi heads a little more with a good valve job, up the compression to utilize 93octane and shoot for 300rwhp. Not to sure yet what to do about an intake. I'm brainstorming on a design and hopefully can scrounge it together

most likely going to flip the ic to get a better path for the turbos to push the air into the ic....

WoodrowLarson 12-09-2013 08:34 PM

It's sad to see the swap thread dying down. This is the lone thread that had traffic :(

gotspeed74 04-14-2014 06:25 PM

So glad I found this post! I just finshed a 99 v6 to 4.6 and I'm already bored with it;) So I bought
a 5.4 2v today for 200 bucks! Here goes nothing!!

5.4 swap

Just picked up a HPS 5.4 intake. I would really like to find some LT headers. The last vendor mentioned in this thread appears to be out of business as well. . . .

I had a loud lifter that I had to pull the drivers side valve cover and re-bleed all of them since I couldn't isolate it. But the noise is gone now.

On the dyno it layed down 374/345 SAE. I just got some long tubes modified to fit. Now I'm trying to fab up my o/r x pipe. Hopefully have it back on the dyno this month to see the gains.

Mr. Sandman 05-04-2014 05:12 PM

hey guys. well I had mine up and running for a bit then it all fell apart :( I used adapter plates and couldn't get the driver side in the rear to seal up. From the leak it was running lean and I started to get a vibration. Then it happened. The vibrations caused the Loctite on my cam bolt to break loose and it spun out. The gear walked until it sheared off the keyway and the cam stopped in place while the gear kept going. I ended up hitting every exhaust valve on my driver side. Well our clearance issue sucks and I had to pull the engine just to remove the head.

Just an update to my B-headed 5.4 build. After I modifed some long tubes I was finally able to get it on the dyno. I was shocked that I gained so much. The last dyno with the shorty's the motor didn't like any timing but when the LT's went on it wanted more fuel and timing. So here is the sheet that shows the shorty header dyno and now my long tube dyno.

Awesome numbers man.

lhill1995 10-01-2014 11:27 AM

Cobra54 Looks like you have good low end torque for a 4-valve car. I was always under the impression that 4-valve cars were nearly dead below 3000 rpms. I actually own a 2003 4x4 superduty with the 5.4 but I have read every thread on every site that I could find over the last year to get info on my build and this is the best thread by far. There is too much false information out there as I for a long time understood the 5.4 had a 9.8:1 compression ratio untill I did the math myself. I want to thank all you mustang and crown Vic guys for paving the way in performance on the 5.4, and this is the build I have planned. I will use a built shortblock with good H-beam rods and JE zero decked pistons with trick flow 44cc heads to shoot for 9.8-10.5:1 compression based on what my builder recommends for a 7000lb truck. HPS intake and some custom cams with 1 5/8" heads probably shorties as that's all that's available and I have no time to make any as it's my work truck. Dual 3" exhaust with hooker max flow mufflers and no cats. 4.56 gears and 35" mud grips. Hopefully I will have close to 330hp at the tires. I will be happy with that.

Just posted an HPS 5.4 in the classifieds if anyone's in need.

JMPodo511 10-22-2014 12:53 PM

Not sure if this tread is still current or not but I too own a 5.4 swapped GT w a P-1sc1. I have a red 2000 mustang gt with a 5 speed and a 2003 5.4 2v from a e350. Motor has 50k miles on it. I bought the car with the swap, supercharger, BBK shortys, bassani mufflers, suspension and wheels added already. It has the HPS knuckleball'r intake, procharger air to air intercooler and MAFia setup. It also had 42lb injectors and a procharger CIA. Since I bought the car I've been going thru tying up lose ends and trying to get documents what's been done. I added the bbk 78mm throttle body and plenum, 60lb injectors, BBK off road x pipe, , kenne bell BAP, tensioner, iidler pulley, racing seats, gates green belt, plugs and a 2.80 supercharger pulley good for 12.5lbs of boost. Since it has flat top Pistons this as much boost as I could safely push. It was good for 390/420.. I'm rrady for the next step but unsure of my direction and open to advice. I was thinking of going with the modmaxracing rotating assembly that comes with the forged crank, dished Pistons, rods, rings and bearings. I also want to add stage 3 heads and cams, upgraded fuel system. I'll have to upgrade to a D1sc procharger also.. Has anybody done this extensive of a 5.4 2v swap mod? Is all of this feasible or am I going outta my way for no reason? I'd like to get to 600hp range. If doing all this on a 50k mile, 2v, 5.4l doesn't make sense other options I was looking at include the MMR 5.4 short block (which is essentially everything I wanan do just with a new block), or a MMR 5.0 stroker motor. I'd like to just keep my engine and add all the above mods.. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance

jbrucksch03 05-11-2015 03:40 PM

I am def looking into the 5.4 swap in the mist of looking for a donner motor nowhoping to find one that I don't need to do any rebuild.i know I gotta get an intake and fix the exhaust prob but is there anything else? was really hoping just a set of cams would give me the pwr band at a lil higher rpms and be done with some forced induction?

Bowser330GT 02-17-2016 11:27 PM

Hey all! I'm brand new on this forum. Tearing down my 5.4 2v and planning on a mild set up of shorties, cams, hps intake and a wider plenum and stuffing it in my 98 GT. Thank you guys for getting this info out there! I'm looking forward to destroying ricer pukes! >:D

Wolgy 02-28-2016 07:18 AM

Hey guys Just found a fully built 5.4 motor and want to swap it into my 2000 GT. Having trouble finding an intake for that bad boy, any advice? Also any thoughts on putting ford lighting supercharger on it? I feel like it would stick up WAY to high. Thanks!

zigbigadoru 01-10-2017 05:49 PM

Hey all,

Just wanted to inform you I will be building a mockup and eventually a set of long tube headers for the 5.4 in a mustang. I will try to keep you updated with progress pics as it comes along. Oh and after my set is done I would be more than willing to let you guys have access to my mockup in order to get your own set of long tube headers as well. Cheers!

myillwillinc 01-11-2017 12:17 PM

i still have a few sets of flanges fromt he shop here that was going to build some. let me know if u need some.
