STC XCalibrator

Hey all, I'm new to this forum, and hoping I can get some good info here. First question, is this thing worth it, or do you guys have any other recommendations? My mods now include BBK C/A intake, 70mm TB/Plenum.

Its a very good mod. i know guys that have picked up almsot 4mph in the traps. And dropped a good solid 3tenths off there times. And most people will see these results, its a great mod. I am gonna do it if i ever feel like tunning my nitrous setup.

Very worthwhile mod imo. I have a SCT 4 bank chip and the tune was a mail order. Helped a great deal, I picked up 3-4 mph and 2 tenths from it.

What is the difference between these 2 tuning devices SCT Xcalibrator and SCT extreme flash tuner :icon_scra

I believe one allows you to reburn your chips with just a mail order tune... you simply plug it into your computer... reburn it... and put it back in your car...

The other actually allows you to create the tune (instead of buying it and having someone email you)... you can control a bunch of the parameters and make your own custom tunes... I believe you have to be SERIOUSLY into your car and racing to even consider that...

they both are able to be reburned the tuner does not allow you to make changes to your tune. basicly the excalibrator is a basic versoin of the tuner hence why its cheaper its also loads programs way faster than the tuner tune.
they both have the smae tuning abilities otherwise.

Are they user friendly? Ive herd that they work great depending on your Mods! which one do you all recommennd? I have a Superchip in the car now was never too impressed with it :hmh: Iam gonna pull it out cause Iam almost positive that its makin my car run lean! and Iam runnin N.O.S. thanx for all your input guys.

i would get the excalibrator. its cheaper and does the same thing. and it loads in like a minute or so.

did i mention its cheaper?

which would you say is better.. the SCT Xcalibrator or the DiabloSport Predator Programmer?

spike_africa 02-07-2005 06:11 AM

SCT. Fpr getting a custom tune on that will make more power. i would most likly say SCT. plus there arent many guys who tune with diablo.

Arg... hate to bring this back up... what's the difference between the Xcalibrator and the 4-bank chip? It's like an extra 75 dollars for the Xcalibrator and it appears you can only hold 3 tunes as apposed to the 4 bank chip which i'm guessing holds 4? Someone clue me in please...

Another question about the excalibrator, When you buy it, how many tunes does it come with for the price. And how much extra are additional tunes.?? I've already made up my mind one the 4 postion chip, I have a zex nitrous system. And since the 4 postion chip is on the fly, and i ordered a tune for it. It's a must.

If i got the excalibrator, I would have to ride around the street with a nitrous tune.

A question for people with the 4 position SCT chips. Any problems ever switching on the fly. It would be nice to rig it up somehow, to switch to the nitrous tune whenever you arm your system. Has anyone rigged up anything like that and if so. Share please??

I have a K&N CAI, Accufab TB/Plenum, and a Magnaflow catback. I'm looking at gears and LT's in the near future. I don't plan on cams, heads, etc for a while. Would a programmer/flasher be worth the money?

Vert_Lover 02-16-2005 01:34 PM

Programmer's are always worth the money... especially with how Rich the Mustang comes stock.

As for shifting on the fly with the SCT you can as long as the tunes aren't too completely radically different which may cause a stall. In that case it's advised you put a midway put between the two tunes so instead of going from 1 to 2... you go from 1, to 2, and to 3.

Prices of tunes vary from place to place I'm sure. I believe Mustang Tuning does them for about 25 bucks per tune according to the website. Most come with 1 tune.
