Need Clutch Suggestions

Well since my SPEC Stage 1 crapped out on me after after a little over a year, I've decided to swap it out for something else while I install my 3.73's. I'm just looking for a strong, reliable clutch that will engage/disengage smoothly. One that will not be noisy would also be nice. I see the track maybe 6 times in a year.

I've looked at Mcleod and Centerforce but they seem like overkill maybe for a car that is making as little power as mine.

I probably will not buy another SPEC.

I've heard mixed opinions of the King Cobra.

What has and has not been working for everyone else? Any suggestions are welcome.

I've got a King Cobra in my Snake and it works fine, and ive got a T45 pushing around 300+ ft/lb torque. Spec makes a fine clutch so long as you break it in properly, and use the Ford factory TOB.

McLeod is also a good clutch. I would think about what you are planning on doing to your car. If you are planning on adding lots of HP, then I would go with a McLeod or a Centerforce to just plan ahead to what you will be doing in the furture. If you are not, just go with a King Cobra, break it in, and be done with it.

I have a centerforce dual friction clutch....and I highly recommend it. I do alot of daily driving in the spring/summer months....and see the track maybe 10 times a year?

Did you buy the Centerforce TOB or did you buy one from Ford?

I hate to recommend outside of MT on their boards but Apex Motorsports has a custom clutch that they designed/spec'd and they put oodles of on hot rodded stangs. It's a dual friction kevlar unit that I found to be really easy to drive and very forgiving while still giving crisp and positive engagement.

Last I knew they were a good bit pricier than competing conventional clutches but I've known these to stand up to hard street driven 700rwhp and not give up the ghost.

Call up my pals chris or mario at 408-588-0075 and ask them about the Apex Kevlar Clutch. No, I'm not affiliated with them but I know this particular clutch VERY well and I can honestly recommend it to anyone, not just high horsepower guys. It's a pleasureto drive on and really holds the power like nothing else.

I got the Centerforce TOB. its great quality as far as I can tell. It does not squeek at all like the SPEC TOB...and engagement is smooth..I give it a 10!
