underdrive pulleys

I purchased a used set of BBK 1559 underdrive aluminum pulleys for aprox 50 percent of the price of a new set. I have not installed them yet due to vehicle being in storage. I believe the pulleys are piggy back style and I have read that most prefer the other style with built in balancer. Should I use the pulleys I have or sell them and cough up the extra money? I have also heard that I don't need a crank pulley puller with piggybacks?

the older 4.6's before mid 2001 have a longer snote on the water pump. the newer 2001 mid and up have a short snot so we cant use the older pulleys.

You really should get the non piggyback kind.Steeda's are the ones I went with. You will need a pulley puller to remove the crank pulley. On the piggyback type, the stock crank pulley mounts to the front of the aftermarket pulley. The reason I didn't go with the piggyback type is not to have the extra rotating mass on the front of the crank.I know it's not much, but then why do people get aluminum flywheels and driveshafts if it doesn't matter???Besides who wants an extra pulley hanging out there anyway. If you ever want to take your car to a show the judges will notice, trust me.BTW use plenty of RTV sealer on the crank pulley keyway,or it WILL leak oil, lots of it.
