car not running good when cold started
 

HI guys I'm having a problem with my car when I first start it in the morning with a cold start. When I put it in drive or reverse right away it boggs down and will not move for a little bit until it warms up for like a minute. Has anyone had this problem with their car? I've tried everything to figure out its source to no avail. Everything on the car has been checked out and seems good. Any input would be great.

Cold start, like meaning it takes a few seconds for it to turn over? Try this... whenever you go to turn your car off, put it in park(or neutral with the e-brake) and let it rev up and idle for a couple seconds... after it seems calm, turn the ignition off. WHat i did with mine... no more cold starts.

Doesn't sound too good.
 

From 2,000 miles away my best guess it is the pump in the transmission. I'm assuming after starting, you put it in drive, press the accelerator and the engine speeds up and the car doesn't move or moves slowly?

No it has nothing to do with the tranny or turning over its just in the morning after it fires up I have to wait a minute or two to put it in gear or it will bog down almost to the point of stalling for like 30 seconds. After that it runs great for the rest of the day. I know its not the fuel pump in that it was replace recently

I always let my car run untill it idles down before I put it into gear.

I know what you mean. My car does the same thing. I think its pretty normal. I think it either has to do with the fuel system getting pressurized or the piston rings need heat to run well. I dunno :confused: My dads 95 cobra does the same thing. Just like in the winter the transmission will grind going into first gear before its warmed up.

yeah, anyone who starts the car up and immediately puts it in gear and goes is asking for trouble in the future. I ALWAYS wait 30 sec to 1 min in the morn

Hold on. You car should start up immediately and not bog at all. The situation you described is not normal and should be fixed if you can. Here are some things to check:

1 - Do you have colder plugs installed? If so, the car may run more rough when cold. But for just a few seconds.

2 - You most likely have either tired and worn plugs, or coil packs. Replacing plugs is cheap, coil packs are not. Essentially, your car is missfiring until it gets a little heat going.

3 - Stuck IAC that needs to be cleaned or replaced. This is an easy check and a good thing to clean anyway.


I would start with #3 just because it is simple.

He says put it in reverse or drive so it's an auto tranny I'm assuming. Does the fluid need to get pumping in the tranny?? or should I STFU.? :confused: :rolleyes:

I agree 100% IAC. Does it make any weird sounds like a Humm?

Well I have 1.5 step colder plugs so maybe thats my deal. I dont have an IAC on mine. or at least not on the intake tube
