torque specs
HEy well i have a 96 gt 4.6 liter and all but need a new intake manifold...(if anyone knows where to get one cheap tell mee please) however what i am really looking to find out is weather or not their is a certain specification as to how tight (with a torque wrench) you are supposed to go...i mean with heads you have to torque them down correctly i would imagine with a manifold it is the same thing esspecially because the intake manifold is PLASTIC thats mostly why i ask

Im sure its somewhere on the internet. If you are lazy like I am, call the ford dealership and they will be able to tell you from FoMoCo's tech website.

thanx...wasnt sure where exactly to start searching...and diddnt feeling like working for my information..lol..however calling a dealer sounds like a good plan

well i just recently went through this with my 96 gt as well. I bought my intake manifold from dallas mustang. I got mine for $328 shipped next day air (obviously jacking the price up), but also with a 15% discount they were offering at the time. I think the regular price is 299.99. It was just a stock replacement, although with the aluminum coolant runner (my thermostat housing was cracked). On the manifold they sent me, it had the runners numbered in the order to tighten (there is an optimum pattern to tighten the bolts) and had torque specs engraved in the plastic. It said to tighten to 18 ft/lbs. Chilton's shop manual says 15-22 ft/lbs. Hope this helps you out.
Other than from Ford, Dallas Mustang and Sean Hyland Motorsports were the only places I found to have the stock replacement (NPI) manifolds with the aluminum runner. There may be other places but I was in a hurry to get one so didn't spend too much time looking around. Both places I believe were the same price but SHM didn't offer next day shipping, so that is why I chose dallas mustang. I have purchased a couple speedcals from them as well and have been completely satisfied with the customer service and support I have received from them. OBTW, the manifold from Dallas Mustang also comes with everything you need for the install. The gaskets are made into the manifold (all one piece). It comes with a thermostat and o-ring. You will need to swap your coolant temp sensors to the new one, but all in all, install was a breeze. Scott |

ok i found this...which is VERY helpful since im doing a cam swap, but can someone explain the "step" process. Do you tighten it down and then do the "additional 90* turn" 3 times?
