Shifter Question

I purchased the Mustang Tuning Shifter for TR-3650 and have installed it in my '01 GT. Everything seemed to by fie for about a month now it is every notchy and hard to get into second gear. All the other gears seem to be fine, nice and smooth. Second gear is hard to shift up or down to and just does not feel right. Any ideas? Thanks!

Your problem might not be with the shifter, but with the shift fork or synchro assy. I think Ford has a TSB for that concern. I can't remember the details now, I'm too tired, but I will look it up at work tomorrow and give you the details. :idea1:

MAke sure that you don't have the stop set screw set too close...the one in the back! It could have slipped. This would not allow you to engage second or even 4th properly.

my shifter was notchy when first installed but this went away after it was broken in. I would check the stops just to be sure

Yeah, the stops were my first thought. I will check those. I just thought it was strange that it just started after being fine for over a month. Thanks for all the advise.

Usually if you are having problems clicking into a gear this is a trans issue though.

In cold weather, I still scrape gears just as much with my tri-ax as I did with my stock shifter.

There is a TSB fix for this...just bring your car to your local ford dealer..and tell them that it is hard to shift in and out of 2nd gear..they should fix it with no questions asked ....Its ALMOST like a recall but they just have a TSB.. this is a problem you could encounter with the 3650 trannys. And FORD knows about it. :evil5:

Some have said that it is best to take out your shifter before getting trans service since some dealers are anal so be sure to check ahead so they can not blame the shifter when the real problem is the tranny

its from the cold weather, and our crappy trannys. does it get better once your car has been warmed up and driven for a little while?

Shifter

You know I was wondering if the cold weather had something to do with it but it does not really seem to change once the car is warmed up. I appreciate the TSB info I will follow up on that for sure. I was just getting ready to check and see if there were any bulletins or recalls on the tranny, so thanks for the heads up.

try-ax

I know it may sound dumb but why do they call it a tri-ax and does it shift any different than a stock shifter?

spike_africa 05-24-2005 07:27 PM

its just the name of the shifter. its shorter and thats about it. i have it its good.
