3.90's?

I am planning on having Motive 3.90's installed in the next two weeks. I was just wondering if anybody here has, or knows somebody that has 3.90's? I have havent heard anything negative about Motive gears, or 3.90's, but i would like to know everything that somebody can tell me about their experience with them. Thanks in advance! :)

Two words:

DO IT

BTW, I would recommend that you go ahead and get the 4.10's

motive gears are fine had them in my truck for a long time. and whats there to say about 3.90's better than 373 and less aggrisive then 410's i say best of both worlds.

Yes, had ford made a 3.90 gear, id have them in my car. Wish they did. Of course, now that I have the 3.73s in, theyll come out with that ratio...

You will need a few extra parts though. It's not a direct replacement like the FRPP gears.. might cost you more money than going with 4.10 FRPP gears..

How so? What extra parts? ...those gears are direct replacement and if the car is pretty new it will not need new bearings so no extra parts will be needed! :D

are you positive? I haven't done a gear swap myself, but the shop I took it to and two others said that they only installed FRPP gears for mustangs for the normal price, otherwise it was like $80 higher. Don't know the details, but I am 90% sure there is more to the motive gears for our cars, but of course I could be wrong :)

The only extra parts that you might need are new bearings which are not needed on a low mileage car! :) ..otherwise its just a direct swap! :D..whatever shop told you it would be more for motives were trying to take more money from you! ;)

Yah, after reading a little more on it, the only main difference is the shimming. I guess its a pretty common thing around AZ for shops to charge more for motive gears, but nobody knows why. Crazy

Most shops that do gears often will charge you less for the Ford brand because they do not have to measure the backspacing depth since Ford's MHD design. All Ford gears use the same backspacing hence the name Master housing demision or MHD. So they can be done quicker with less tools. I have had two sets of gears put in my 02 and both the Richmond and Ford slipped right in with minimal shim adjusting. 3.90 is a nice ratio tall but not too tall.
