4.6L Headers
 

I'm thinking of putting full length BBK headers catback x pipe and flowmaster exhaust. My only fear is causing a problem with the car passing inspection in the state of MA does anyone know if the car will past emmisions?.

What state are you in? Mine passed here in La, but that's not really that hard.

Some states just look under the hood,some look under the car.Others plug in to the daignostic port and look for codes.Some use sniffer probes in the exhaust.What do they normally do in MA.If they look under the car they'll see the headers for sure.Here in Wv they only look for leaks in the exhaust.

In Mass they put a probe into the exhaust pipe. The car is inspected now I just don't want to do all this work and have the car fail next year. I was thinking that as long as I reconnect the sensor in the full lenght headers and have the x-pipe with the cats I would be good but I wanted someone else's opinion.

Why not check with a local smog referee? He'd know the answer better than anyone.

Also, if your car is low enough they may not even bother to check.

I found a thread from 11.24.04 here called HOW HARD IS IT TO INSTALL LONG TUBE HEADERS? Although I work at a shop with a hoist and have good mechanical ability I don't look forward to having to pull my k-member out and all of my front steering linkage and suspension to install the headers. I'M sorry that I troubled you with the header questions when I should of checked the other threads first. I would like the sound and performance increase but I think that this may not be worth my time and money and I can't see paying anybody else to work on my car.

here in new york they put your car on a dyno to check emissions but the dyno doesnt tell hp.

Here in chicago they put it on a dyno also. There is no way to pay someone off it's all automatic. Once it's done it prints out the sheet with all your info on it. Testing is every 2 years so i just swap pipes.

Long tubes will not cause you to fail an emissions test. Just be sure to get an X pipe with cat's. It is not illegal to run headers, just to remove the cat's. You can legally remove your cat's after 50,000 miles but you must replace them. I have an aftermarket X pipe with high flow cat's and passed the sniffer test.

Well put Mr Blue02GT. or just move to South Dakota (look on map if you dont know where SD is) i dont have to take an emisshions test Thank god. my offroad X-pipe and 2chambers would not pass.
