9 inch question

Has anyone put a 9inch in their DD? also
Did you have it shortened or keep factory width?

Not trying to be a smart ass but why do you need a 9" in a daily driver?
More info please.

Even If a factory width housing out of something were to fit nicely in a newer model such as the one in your avatar, the suspension mounts are going to be different and have to be modified. Yes, you can order a 9" built for your car from places like Moser Engineering but, if it's a real daily driver in this time of $3-$4 gasoline, it probably doesn't have enough power to be worth the expense of a custom built 9" housing or the work of cutting/welding an old factory housing to fit and work with your suspension.
You can build a pretty much bullet proof 8.8 for far less. A factory 31 spline truck 8.8 limited-slip diff snagged from the junkyard with the clutches replaced and packed tighter and a set of Moser alloy axles is plenty for most daily drivers that see strip action.
Unless you're making a ton of power and launching on slicks at a high rpm, there's no need for anything that is going to be that much work and/or expense plus the extra, albeit slight, power loss through the larger differential.
Of course, if you have the tools and parts lying about already and want something different or want to say hey, I've got a 9" in my car, that's cool, it's your ride.

well ive noticed there are a couple of companies out there that make the 9in swap stuff including a different housing. my think is i was looking at wanting to mini tub the rear end and run wider tires, so if i wanted to goto the track on a weekend or something i could bolt on a set of slicks and make some passes. would that still be possible with an 8.8? not worried about power, already running a 5.4L and ive got another motor i'm building to put in. basically all in all, its going to eventually be a turbo car that when i run around on the street, ill keep the boost low for better fuel economy and easier street driving then when i want to goto the track i can turn the boost up, run higher octane gas.

Just stick an 8.8 Auburn Pro for 31 spline axles in it with a pair of 31 spline Moser alloy axles.
