Purchasing An Aftermarket Intake Manifold
So last Friday night I cracked the stock piece of shit manifold and coolant leaks as fast as you can pour it in. Soon I will be procharged with a p1 or d1 at a little under 400 hp. After I get a forged short block my numbers will be in the mid to upper 500's, with supporting mods of course.
My question is, what manifold should I purchase to get the most power out of my application? I'm leaning towards hps but enlighten me on what you think. |
I'm also liking the trick flow manifold, but that is a lot of money.
|
HPS or TrickFlow all the way.
But IMO, I'd say fuck getting a new manifold. Just drop an 01 Cobra motor in there when you do the procharger. Done. |
I'm going with a victor jr manifold but I'm throwing blower cams in my car as well. The shorter runners will cost me low end but I will still be able to launch off the line just under max torque. Also, with the victor jr. you have to buy extra parts to make it work which is pretty lame.
|
Alright, so I decided to go with the more affordable option and I'm getting the 4.6 hardball'r intake manifold. Has anyone installed this on a basically stock motor and know the hp/tq increase, just wondering?

Its a nice lookin piece and should really do well with forced induction. |

I've been doing a little poking around on other forums and the guys that are running these Victor Jr. intakes claimed they did'nt lose that much on the bottom end. I want one to run with my nitrous.

The short runners will eat low end. I just dont know how much. I will expect my car to be a dog below 3500 even if I only lose 10-15 worth of torque. But the gains in the upper range will put a smile on my face. 1/4 mile running my car doesnt drop below 4500. Also, having weak torque down low only helps my car hook up for the seldom stoplight drag race. |

So I should spend over half on a stock one and not gain any horsepower? I don't think so.

To be honest. On a stock motor an aftermarket intake manifold will not gain much if any horsepower. The stock plastic piece flows pretty damn good but its only downside is that its plastic. The heads will become a restriction before your plastic intake will.
I just dont see the point of dropping 600 bucks on a intake manifold when the 200 dollar stock one will perform the same. My plastic one broke and I replaced it with another plastic intake. |

when he has a built motor and a supercharger than it will help him, but he would be better off waiting untill those items get installed to install the intake manifold

I am piecing together my own s/c kit as we speak and it won't be long untill I'm fi and I don't see the point in wasting money on a stock piece that I'll end up replacing in a couple of months anyways.
