cobra dash cluster swap!

20 Attachment(s)
so for those of you who wanted to swap their dash clusters and who were worried about the PATS system and how to get past it here is a little write up on it. i looked into it and there was just alot of TALK on this, nobody has done it so i did!
what you will need...
1. pair of needle nose plires
2. tork screw drivers
3. small flat head screw drivery
i also went to youtube and found a step by ste process on my iphone on how to remove everything. heres the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eluij...e_gdata_player
1. first you will need to remove the benzel infornt of the cluster.
Attachment 14503
1a.you do this by disconnecting the battery before anything.
2a.pull out your headlight nob all the way. then with a small flat head screw driver youpush the little clip up while pulling on the nob. it will come off with some effort.
2. you will need your tork screw drivers to remove the front of the cluster.
Attachment 14504
Attachment 14505
Attachment 14506
Attachment 14507
Attachment 14508
2a. after removeing these this should come off.
Attachment 14509
3. now remove the 4 black tork screws around the piece
4. so now your dealing with this.
Attachment 14510
4a. start to pull it out from the bottom but be careful because there are two plugs connected in the back.
Attachment 14511
4b.remove them. one one the left and one on the right.
Attachment 14512
Attachment 14513
5. now its out.
Attachment 14513
6. on the back you will see the 6 brass tork screws.
Attachment 14513
remove them!
7.now heres the circut board.
Attachment 14516
pull strait up on the odometer plug
Attachment 14517
then pull off the circut board.
8.Attachment 14518
now its off.
9.now remove the two screws of the odometer circut board with a smaller tork screw driver.
Attachment 14519
now simply replace all YOUR circutry on the cobra cluster like so. put your odometer board on then the circut board and white backing.
Attachment 14520
10. now after youve put all your hardware on the cobra cluster it should be complete
Attachment 14521
11. now put it back in the way you removed the old one. reconnect the battery and try starting it. this is where EVERYONE says the PATS system wont let you start the car. well they are wrong! mine started right up and kept the same mileage!
Attachment 14522
it also looks good at night!
hope this helps someone!

As long as you replace the board, PATS wont know the difference. Nice write up:) Did you have to calibrate the speedo? I feel like because the new 1 goes to 160 instead of 150 it would now be off and become more incorrect the faster you go.

mines accurate! i hooked up my gps and it gives me a speed and i was within 2mph from 0-90

Would this work on a V6? I don't know a lot about electrical stuff... but have really wanted a speedo that went over 120.

everything should be the same with the clusters. dont see why it wont work. what cluster are you trying to go with? you wont be able to use an 03/04 cluster due to the boost guage. a gt, bullitt, mach1, or 99/01 cobra should work just fine.

The tachs are different... what do you do about that?

I was just curious. Even if I could do it, it probably wouldn't be soon. Just didn't know if the different tachs, and 120/150 difference would keep it from working properly. Not going to even attempt it unless I'm sure I could pull it off. Just so I could have a small project for the next few days or so. I was thinking of a GT cluster.

its realllllllllyyyyy easy! the hardest part was to get the light nob off, after that its a breeze. as for the tach and speedo everything is normal on mine. i hooked my gps up to see my mph and it was within 2mph. the tach seeems fine as well i just dont rev it to 6800-7000. if you want a gt cluster let me know! this swap can be accomplished in under 2 hours while takeing a few breaks!

I'm sure I could do the install just fine. It's just that I'm not sure if the GT cluster would work in my V6, since my tach only goes to 7, and speedo goes to 120.

it will work just fine! just follow the same steps and it will work out!
