1996 GT spring start up issues
 
My wifes car was stored for the winter and when I got it out a couple of weeks ago, I have no air conditioning or cooling fan. I tried the unplugging of the temp. sensor and the fan comes on, but no a/c. All symptons lead to the CCRM , so I bit the bullet and bought a new one ......guess what , no change, so I'm out 300 bucks. I'm going to try resetting the computer because I left power on while changing the CCRM (I know not to now) and I'm hoping it will re-boot and solve problem. Any other suggestions?

won't change a thing. See if you have power at the cycling switch and you could try to jump that just to see if it works. It could have a leak and the pressure is too low to let it engage. Beware.

When it was stored away did you go start it every so often?
Doubt that matters.

I agree with the air conditioning losing charge, you are suppose to cycle it monthly, but I doubt many people in the snow belt regions do. If I take the car for a ride , then let it idle , the gauge will come up and no fan comes on. Just seems odd that both are out together, trying to find the connection. Already checked all fuses. Temp sensor is only 15 bucks , so i'm going to try that, other thought?

I had an similar issue on my 4v and it was the temp sensor also look at you wiring from the fan and make sure its intact.

Those cars have two temp sensors. One is just for the gauge and one is for the ECU to run the fans etc... it would be my choice to replace next. Make sure its the one for the ECU though.

Okay, I did a step by step fan check, I'm at the last step which is the PCM modual .I replaced the temperature sensor last night, no difference, for 17 bucks I said what the heck. It was the temp sensor and not the sender, made sure( the gauge doesn't work if you disconnect the sender). My last hope is a coroded plug at the PCM. To recap, I have no A/C and no low or high fan operation, the fan is fine, I did have both speeds running during the testing, they just won't come on by themselves. Wiring to fans are fine as well, good ground. Will a diagnostic test work if I'm not getting any check engine light.

Okay, a couple of questions, finshed tests, when you unplug the PCM and turn the ignition switch to on (not start) the fan comes on as the test said it should, so PCM is the culprit. I cannot buy a new one (no longer available) so it has to be a rebuilt. Once I install rebulit PCM , I have to get keys re-programmed right? Also they need the vin # to set the anti-theft up, can they use the calibration code instead? Reason why, the car was stolen when new, and now it has a ministry of transportation vin# riveted to the door jam, I have no idea what the original was. Any help would be great, thanks

You can get a reman PCM at a Napa or Advance etc. You don;t need the VIN. A dealer can program it, just give them the old one, too. Drive it there if possible with the old PCM installed. The keyw will have to be reprogrammed and a parameter reset done.
