Is there a Gear Size carrier break in the 8.8 Rearend???
 

Please some one help me out. Im getting ready to get the gears upgraded in my 03 GT, but im having a hard time getting a straight answer from the local shops.

First few tried to rip me off and charge me a small fortune, last set claim that if i go with the 4.10's i will have to replace the posi carrier to one that will accept the 4 series rings???? Does anyone know if this is true or am i getting burned by the local rednecks???? I've tried researching in some other forums in vain. Any of you guys with the 4.10's have to have a spacer matted to the carrier?? or have to replace the carrier??? I swear if its not a Dana or a Ford 9 inch these guys don't know crap about rearends, if it dont run 4 or 5's in the 1/8th their not interested in helping you out...

They are trying to get more money out of you man! All you need is the gear installation kit, which come with new bearing/shims ect...but other than that its a quick bolt on! You don't need a new diff...and you might not even need the installation kit, its recommended if you have a high mileage car! :) , if you have under 40k miles you should be fine!

Did they have to use a spacer for the carrier on your car??? And i figured they were ripping me off, thats why i would ask you guys and get a true answer. Thanks for the info...

No spacer...I don't even know what a spacer is or what use it would serve! I have 3.73's on my car but that would make no difference! I'd go somewhere reputable man, if they are giving you all this BS answers to try and get more money out of you, I would not trust them with my car! All you need is the gears and some gear lube and you should be good to go! You will also need to recalibrate your speedo! :)

find a new shopp!!! don't walk, RUN away from them!!!

Cool thanks again, as for the spacer i mentioned, on a lot of chevy rear ends you have to add a spacer to make up the space difference inbetween the gears and the posi carrier if you go any higher than 3.73 example 4.11 and higher. I know this is true for chevys (which all my local shops eat sleep and bleed) :( but im glad to find out its not true for Fords. Guess ill order the 4.10's and try to find the most reputable people within driving distance.

Yep look around and askother people with Stangs where they had them done.Had my 3:73's installed for $150.

Good advice, im definetely not using any of the shops that i first talked to. I did find a race shop here where they build 10.5 Outlaws he said he would do it for 250 sounds fair enough, but can anyone give me any positive assuarance that the 4.10's will fit with out a new carrier or spacer???

I assure you that you will not need a new differential...you would only an aftermarket rear if you were going with 31/33 spline axles ect...then that would require you to get something lilke a detroit locker ect... :)

Cool thanks again, i feel much better, now im going to order some 4.10's and have the local 10.5 outlaw maniac guy install them. You should see his car it is bad ass makes your stomach feel jittery when it idles!!! If he can build this car he should be able to install my gears with no problems. Appreciate the advice and assurance...

Why dont you go to modularpowerhouse?

Not familiar with modularpowerhouse, what city in GA is it in?

Who did yours for $150 Lance? Man wish I could find that\, just got my 4.10's in today cant wait to get them installed.

Man i just checked out their website, looks like a stang owners dream only problem Alpharetta GA is too far to drive to have something installed. Maybe if they can get it done in a day I could always kill some time watching dyno runs and get some more mod tips from customers and the shop guys.

I gear change should only take 5-6 hours max. So just make a appointment early.

it doesnt take that long to do a gear swap, and also there are shims that get used on the gears. Ford racing gears come with them in the box, motive you have to get a kit for.

I figured they were. I've done everything myself on my car and I really hate being in unknow territory. All the exhaust work, intake installation, even ported and polished my own TB and Plenum, but the gears are too much to tackle.

It really sucks that there are a bunch of loser rednecks who try to rip you off and make an unfair profit doing what should be easy work for pros. Thanks again for all the advice, Im going to call modularpowerhouse monday and see if i can set up an apointment, the gears and install kit are on the way from Jegs (wanted to buy from MT but they are backordered). The guys at modularpowerhouse may become my savior for future work that i can't handle myself.
