throttle body size

I have just recently purchased a trick flow upper intake plenum for my 02 gt and was wondering what size throttle body would be best. It says it can take a 70 or 75mm but Im not sure which would be best. I would like to get a ford racing tb, but I cant find a 75mm and that is what I wanted. If i go 75mm what would be the best tb to get. O yeah I also wanted to get the intake plenum ported if that helps with the decision of the tb. Thanks in advance for everyones advice.

get a 70mm tb abd leave the plenum alone.

ditto!!! If you have a C&L Plenum, go with the 75 mm TB.

Well, what are your plans for the car. If you think there is even the most remote chance that you will go with a supercharger, then get the 75 mm tb. If you are going to stay N/A, pick whichever you find cheaper. I picked up a FRPP 70mm tb for 40 bucks. Cant say it did anything by itself, but Im going to be getting a plenum soon. By the way, how did you like the gain you got from the plenum, anyone notice anything? I need some torque, will I get any?

Get the 75 mm or you'll always wonder "what if".About porting the plenum, just polish the "as cast" finish smooth .DO NOT change the shape of the inside of the plenum.Changing the internal shape of the plenum can(probably will) worsen the flow of air.Polishing the inside will only give you 1 or 2 hp on the top of the power curve, but 1 or 2 here 1 or 2 there....

my cousin has a 2000 gt. He put the trick flow and a 70mm tb on it with a mass air and said that there was a very noticeable gain.

I noticed a pretty good gain with the plenum and tb. It's more responsive and I gained over 2 tenths in the 1/4, and that was with the stock paper filter, and air box. I haven't ran it with my CAI on yet, but I bet it would have gained even more.

i see you have a 75mm tb is there any specific reason you chose that or do you think a 70mm would gain just as much a gain

madmatt 12-05-2004 07:19 PM

The 75 will flow more, therefore making more hp. It will prolly be about 2 hp more, but if you are after every last hp for your street car, and might do a blower in the future, just go ahead and spend the extra 10 bucks for the 75 mm. Neither tb will hurt the performance, but dont expect anything phenominal.

If buying new, get the 75mm.

I got a 70mm, but only because I got it used for 50 bucks.

How big is the stock Ford Throttle Body? I have the MAC Straight shot, and I think it makes sense to do the throttle body next. Also what types of performance boost do I get? Manufacturers clain 8-15 HP.

Islander03GT 12-06-2004 10:13 AM

I'm pretty sure the stock on the modulars is a 65mm

The stock is 65mm. I wouldn't listen too much to the manufacturers, you might get that with the plenum and throttle body, with just the tb it will be closer to 5-8hp

dilo2001gt 12-07-2004 09:37 AM

get a 70 unless you have a power adder get a 75

sultanghahtani 12-08-2004 08:45 AM

It seems the price difference between a 70 and a 75mm to be minimal, right? so why not just go with a 75?

04redmach1 12-08-2004 10:33 AM

The 75 mm throttle body would be good in ur case
