I am going to get a nitrous system very soon. My question is if I have a rev limiter and I miss a gear will the engine go boom? My rev limiter is set at 6200.
I know that the venum kit has a computer that you can adjust the spray to the rpm you want. But a friend said the rev limiter will save me if I miss,and I wont need a computer.
Can anyone help me with this? Also can I run a 125 shot safe? or should I stay with 100?

Yes if you miss a gear, your engine might not blow, but your intake surely will! What you'll need is a window switch! The purpose of the window switch is to regulate the nitrous at a specified rpm! You said you have you rev limiter set at 6200, well you could set the window switch to cut off nitrous at 6grand and if do miss a gear the window switch will cut off the nitrous! :) You will need a tune for a 125 shot! Most people recommend a tune if you run nitrous to your car period, I however have been running a 75 shot on my mustang for 2 yrs now without a tune wiht no problem. You could run a 125 shot without a tune, but I wouldn't risk it!

could you explain how hitting the limiter in our cars would result in a nitrous backfire?

I dont know if it would be a backfire, but wouldnt it have the possibility of toasting a piston or two, just because with the fuel cutoff, if you dont have a window switch, then all you get is nitrous...I dunno, maybe Ive thought about this all wrong.

I don't know, but I for one have heard too many horror stories of people missing gears while at full throttle on the juice! :eek:

When it hit the limiter it would still flwo nitrous yes, but how would this result in a backfire and thus blwoing the intake off? not saying dont get a window switch (as i have one too) just dont see hwo you think hitting the limiter is going to result in a backfire. Also i belive in or cars they tuen the ignition off right when it hits the limiter,not the fuel. I forget i need to look that one up in my ford manual when i get back to orlando.

Thanks so very much. I guess when I do this NOS thing I better do it right. So when the kit says it comes with a computer does that mean a window switch? and why dont kits come with a bottle warmer if it is so important?
I want it compleet with everything and I would like to find one kit that has it all.

First and foremost, dont refer to nitrous as NOS, that is a brand, not the term for nitrous. Sorry, thats just a pet peeve of mine. Makes you sound like a ricer. That is all. And yes, you dont want to skimp out on nitrous safety equipment.

Wow guys! Wait now. hat happens when you hit the rev limiter while spraying is based in part on what type of system you have.

If you have a wet setup, and you hit the limiter and the nitrous systen keeps adding fuel, you can certainly blow up your intake. I have seen the after-affects of this.

On a dry system, you run the risk of going lean and buring a piston becuase fuel is shut down but the nitrous keeps spraying.

Either way, a window switch is a good safety feature no matter if you are wet or dry.

Now to the issue of the Venom systems. They break many of the rules, sort of. If you have a Venom nitrous setup, a window switch is pointless. When you hit the limiter, the ECU pulls spark and prevents the injectors from pulsing. The Venom computer is hooked into the injector signal. Thusly, when the limiter is reached the Venom senses a loss of voltage and shutsdown the nitrous.
