I have a stock 97 gt mustang with 2 1/4 inch flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I am thinking about adding a mustang tuning xpipe with cats. Do you think this is worth the money? will it even make my car sound meaner and give me some more hp? Has anyone ever had any trouble going w/o cats? I just wanted to know if this xpipe was worth the money? I just want my car to sound better yet get a little more hp...thanks

will it sound better sure it makes it louder and if you like that xpipe sound then yes. will it add hp of course it will its bigger piping that flows more so yes it will. Also if you go catlesss it makes it more louder than the catted pipes and give a bit more power cause it flows so well without cats. I am catless with a h-pipe and its great. no problems, only thing that might happen is the check engine light might come on because the rear o2 sensors see there is no cats. some cars will toss the light some wont. it will not affect performance at all. you can get a tune to turn off the rear o2's or get MILs (malfunction indicator lights) these trick the computer into thinking the car still has cats. again these wont affect performance.

the only thing that I am worried about is that the xpipes made by mustang tuning only come in 2.5...and my exhaust is 2.25. Will this be a problem or will it be easy to install? thanks...also, would the only way to pass inspection with o/r is to go private?

You will be fine with xpipe but if you want some power gains it will be best to get a complete 2 1/2 catback.

well the only reason i didnt get a full catback is because i got a really good deal on flowmaster 40 series mufflers. So my car sounds really good for just having mufflers, but i want it to sound even more aggressive. So I've decided to add an xpipe. But, if you guys think that a 2.5in xpipe will fit a 2.25in exhaust with no problem then ill take your words. Oh, and i know we're on a m/t website...but honestly who makes the best xpipe?

Youll be fine look as I had the same setup http://www.mustangtuningforums.com/showthread.php?t=109 . I like slp since you can remove cats and add race pipes rather easy.

is the only way to pass emissions test with o/r midpipes to go to someone you know privately?

another quick question...down the road after my xpipe is installed and i want to do headers...would i be able to put longtube headers to the m/t x pipe?? would the xpipe just have to be cut to a shorter assembly xpipe? thanks

Ok, first, youll be fine without the catback, those are really just important if you have a poweradder or something that you REALLY need to get rid of the exhaust gases in a hurry, youre not going to really tell a difference between a cat back and just some mufflers. Also, with emissions, if you have to do emissions testing, just keep the stock h pipe and swap it back on when its time for the check-up. And about the headers, if you get them, yes, you'll have to buy a new x pipe, so my suggestion, is that if you are planning on them, save the money now. Get it all done at once, and youll save money. It will take you a little longer, but do it this way first. That way, you dont have to worry about selling the x pipe, buying all the new stuff, etc...

okay so now that that's taken care of...im decidiing on whether or not to go with or without cats. Is there really that much of a difference between the two? which do you guys recommend? passing an emmision test is not an issue because i go to a private tester who can pass me. Thoughts on both? thanks

O/R would sound better, if you do you will need MIL eliminators or get a tuner/chip to delete them. If you want a xcal i got one for sale :icon_bigg

If you want to do headers, save up a little more money and get an SLP X-Pipe. Its modular so you can use it with the standard size tubes until you get headers, and then remove those tubes for when you have LT's, making it a shorty X-Pipe.

quick question on headers/xpipe
 

okay im not sure if i want to do just an xpipe or a shorty xpipe and l/t headers. Do you guys think that i should do the shorty xpipe and l/t headers or do mid length headers and a regular xpipe setup? That would work right...mid lengths and a xpipe setup? What are some shorty xpipes available on the market? all ive ever seen was slp...okay guys thanks. Give me your advice/experience.

IMO, SLP is a great way to go. The newer ones are all modular, so if you start with the X-Pipe now, you can always shorten it later to accomodate the LT's.

so if i get the catless slp x pipe...and i decide later that i want to do l/t headers i can buy a part that will allow me to do this? What will i need to buy? and since i can't afford the slp l/t headers (lol) do you guys think MAC is a good brand? thanks

what are your opinions on MAC long tubes? they seem fairly cheap for ceramic headers? thanks

you get what you pay for. BBK,SLP are some of the best. SLP being the best IMO

They are just modular. So, if you add LT's later, you just shorten it up. Check with a dealer to be sure.

Go ahead and get the catted pipe imo, because they are VERY loud. You can always swap in the race pipes so you may as well.

SLP if you have the money, MAC if you dont care. Also, does anyone know if you can pull the tranny with the SLPs still attached?

Oh trust me, if you want loud, just get a loudmouth 1, a catted slp x pipe and their headers. Youll be louder than you want with just the catback prolly. Its LOUD LOUD.

Id stick to one brad kinda thing. Its so much easier to install stuff that was meant to work together. Youd prolly have to heat and bend the slp x to match the bbk headers. If you go slp x, go slp headers, likewise for bbk.

well i wanna do slp x pipe...but their l/t headers are way too much money for me (715) thats just crazy...so i was looking at bbk headers for around $500, but i haven't found a bbk xpipe yet

SLP all the way... I have them but havent gotten them on the car yet!!
