PI Head Swap on High Mileage Engine??
 

I was wondering if doing the PI Head Swap on my 96' GT with 154,000 miles would increase the hp and torque just as much as an engine with 50,000 miles on the odometer would? Also, would there be anything to be concerned with after doing the swap on my engine? Last question... How much hp and torque would I be looking at if I were to install comp XE262H cams along with the PI Head Swap?

As long as the motor is in good running condition with good compression and is not burning oil,etc.. you can do the PI swap and be just fine. Typical gains with PI swap are around 40rwhp with all stock parts. With those cams add in another 15rwhp. Of course you need to time the cams correctly to get the power results from the better heads and cams. Can't tell you how many PI swapped 96-98 cars I have seen make low numbers from incorrectly installed cams.

Ok, so that would put my car on around 55hp increase? I was planning on having the heads and cams installed professionally so I wouldnt happen to make any mistakes while doing the install. Would it be better off if I got the heads ported and polished before the install for a bigger increase in horsepower and torque?

no two cars will ever get the same exact gains from the exact same mods. definetlly get them installed professionally and don't skimp on the tune or the port and polish.

That's what I was thinking when i decided to have them professionally installed. I want to get the most out of what I spend my money on.

Do the install yourself. It's not a difficult process. Just make sure you line up the marks on the chain correctly and you'll be fine.

As for CJ Pony Parts, they seem to be a good company, so I'd trust them.

Your going to need a competent Ford modular mustang tuner too.

What do you mean competent ford modular mustang tuner? Just a tuner itself or something different? Just having it tuned by a professional since they know everything that needs to be done should work, right? Because I was going to take it to CJ Pony Parts in Harrisburg to have most of the work done to it.

i think he meant a shop with a mustang dyno n the premises and an experienced person that will be able to adjust the timing, fuel/air ratio, and everything else necessary to get the most out of your modifications.

Ok i wasnt sure there for a second, but that is my plan to take it to a professional and have them do the tuning so I dont screw anything up. I want it done right the first time so there are no problems.

do your research dude!!! make sure you are taking it to a shop that has done this kind of work before. see if you can find user reviews that would be helpful.

the best shop to take it to would be a mustang only shop, even if you have to go out of your way to get there. personally, i only take my car to two shops that are mustang only shops. they are both about an hour of driving away from me, and if the car has to stay over night or for an extended period, i take the railroad home and back to pick it up.

CJ Pony Parts is a Mustang only shop and there only about an hour away from me which isnt bad so thats why i was thinking of going there plus they've been working on mustangs for years now so im pretty sure that they can tackle a project like this in a few days.

I mean someone who actully knows how to tune modular mustangs aka 96+ mustangs. There are many people who can fix the a/f ratio, change the timing, but can they get it to idle right, not stall when stopping at a light etc.
