Car acting up a little bit?

Now that I have the offroad mid pipe I notice when i start the car in the garage when i move it from Park to Reverse the exhaust almost seems like it builds up a second then jumps about a foot or two real quick backwards. any idea's?

King 12-15-2008 10:14 PM

auto? and what do you mean the exhaust jumps a foot or two?

Stephen4036 12-15-2008 10:14 PM

yessir

King 12-15-2008 10:15 PM

Does the whole car kinda jump a foot or two, or does the exhaust actually (physically) move?

Stephen4036 12-15-2008 10:17 PM

how would the exhaust only move? its bolted to the car? the whole car does..

King 12-15-2008 10:19 PM

That's what I was wondering. You weren't being too conclusive about the whole deal. Kinda sounds like an engaging problem with your torque converter. But you say this happened AFTER you installed the midpipe?

Stephen4036 12-15-2008 10:21 PM

yea but im sure it has nothing to do with it

King 12-15-2008 10:23 PM

Yeah, unless your torque converter isn't properly sealed on the flywheel and you bumped it hard enough while under your car, this doesn't make much sense. That's really the only thing I can think of. You might ask Dustin to take a look at it, maybe?

Stephen4036 12-15-2008 10:24 PM

well see im sure he will notice when we do jerry mod

King 12-15-2008 10:26 PM

You guys still have to explain that to me, because there is no way in hell I'm going to read that e-book you sent me. I'm interested in what you're doing, but not that interested. lol

Stephen4036 12-15-2008 10:29 PM

arent mach1's manual?

King 12-15-2008 10:29 PM

I think auto was an option, but mine is yes.

Stephen4036 12-15-2008 10:31 PM

well if its an auto the basic idea of the jerry mod is drilling bigger holes to allow more fluid to flow through which makes it grab harder and stay cooler but this is the explanation coming from me so its very simplified.

King 12-15-2008 10:34 PM

What about wear? I imagine your gear wear would be worse if it grabs harder.

krenogin 12-15-2008 11:17 PM

actually auto trans's are better if they grab harder. they last alot longer.

Wombozi17 12-15-2008 11:29 PM

look at these two getting along so well! :eek2:

And stephen, i have had the same issue in drive when im pulling into my garage. it makes a slight lurch forward every once in a while.

Did you check the tranny fluid? Is still clean and red?
I'm not sure which method a 4r70w uses but thats usually caused by wear in the clutch pack and it takes it that second to build up enough pressure to apply. Cant remember if those things still use bands..

stanger00 12-16-2008 11:18 AM

do your rpms more than usual when you go from park to reverse?

my POS does this too even when i had the stock tranny and stock converter. i blamed it on the fact that the rpms would drop a good bit and when it compensated for the drop this caused the car to jump.

Stephen4036 12-16-2008 11:37 AM

its idling at 600-800 in the garage in park.

ooops i forgot to re-read..

i said do your RPMs drop more than usual when you shift from park to reverse?

Stephen4036 12-16-2008 11:46 AM

a. your first sentence needs to be re-written it sounds like a 2nd grader wrote it.
b. it drops about 200 or so to around 500

hmmm yes i should of writtien it better and used such words like revise, proof read, edit, etc....but i didnt want the window licker to hurt his wittle brain.

oh and thats why your car jumps a little bit it's because the rpms dip. since i have a loose converter my piece hasnt done it in a while. now it just stalls out or over powers the brakes and lunges forward like E-40's scraper gas, brake, dip

Black Sunshine 12-18-2008 09:36 AM

Mine does the same thing. Idles at around 600-800 in park. It feels like it lurches forward a bit, too. But I don't worry about it.

King 12-18-2008 09:39 AM

Well most autos lurch forward a bit when put into drive. When the transmission switches over into drive that's sort of your indication that it's engaged. But for it to take a second or two then jump one or two feet seems a little extreme..

if retard would stop wrecking his car, maybe it wouldnt act up. stephen, I am a mechanic...but I am not going to give you any pointers since you are such a jackass dousche on here...constant disrespect...even attacking Stanger00 when he was trying to help you, spouting off about how what he wrote looked like a 2nd grader wrote it...all when your original post is unclear itself.

lol get a life... he said re read what he said i said re-write it so i could understand, thats not being a jackass, and then i answered what he wanted to know.. btw what does wrecking my car have to do with tranny, no frame/mechanical work was needed so relax. And why would i take your advice. I would listen to peecola before ide listen to you.

and also, of course its unclear "jackass" seeming as i dont know what the problem is so i cant really explain it all that well.. ok "jackass"

exhuast builds up, huh.... do you mean builds up as in a REVV? or was it more literal because i havent heard of an exhaust that can build up time.

answer this. what makes the exhuast build up?

I am relaxed, and any jolt can mess up things like transmissions, drivetrains...etc. It just depends on the circumstances
