Dumb Newb Mistake, possible damage.

When I finally got around to change the sparkplugs on Sunday I forgot to reconnect the MAF sensor. I drove less than five miles, I could tell the car wasn't running completely right but not horrible. Today, I went out to get datail job estimates for that paint overspray, looks like they are going pay for it, the car wasnt running right so I pulles over after driving about a mile or less and saw that I forgot to reconnect it.

What damage could I have done to the engine. It seems to be running fine now. All the unmetered air worries me, I am suprised it even ran as good as it did.

Yeah, a buddy of mine cracked his maf houseing in his f-150, pulled it out and just put a filter were the maf was. He must of had it like that for over a month before he got annoyed of putting it in neutral and reving it up everytime he came to a stop so he wouldn't stall out and finnally shelled out the cash to get a new houseing. i cant imagine that doing any good but his truck still runs. Sigh That brought back so many memories

Running really rich can damage the cats, but I doubt your short run did them any harm.

IIRC i Believe my buddy needed new o2 senors after that acctually

I did that too when I changed my filter but took a look after I noticed bucking. Sure enough, I forgot to re-plug in the MAF. Gotta love stupid mistakes...

Done it before. don't trip unless you hear something ticking. it ran like crap for me but I noticed about a block away. I'll assume you kept out of the skinny pedal

The computer goes into a safe mode when things like this happen so do not worry.

Ok, I'm relieved. I was worried that it created a lean condition with all the un-metered air. Atleast this is something that has worked in my favor lately, things haven't been going so well. Three tests this week, on top of two homwork assignments, people getting killed at my school, a hole in my boots, ahh the crap just piles on. FRIDAY!, WHERE ARE YOU?
