5.1L stroker

Anyone ever take their 4.6L engine and add new internals to it to stroke the motor our to 5.1L? i've always felt there is no replacement for displacement.

i want to run some boost, and i know the safest way to do it with more then 8-10psi is by adding forged internals... and if i'm getting forged internals, why wouldn't i just go ahead and bore out the block, get a new cam, get new heads, and stroke out the engine?!?!?!

anyone have any luck doing something like this?? am i just getting mod happy?? will just getting a blower with 8-10 psi make me happy?? have i just had too much coffee this morning????

Lots of people of done it. Me with the mod motors thin wall's I wouldn't bore the motor out at all for the little in CI you can gain. But people do it with good results.

It is one avenue that could be pursued but from a $$ perspective, you would be better off getting a 5.4L stock, throwing in some forged goodies and turnig on the boost. There's a whole bunch of folks working on this very idea in here in the first sticky. I am not sure what machine work would be involved to stroke a 4.6 but I gotta think it's more cost effective to avoid the machine work and drop in forged internals in a 5.4L

w00t to that. it's cheaper to do the 5.4 since you don't have to replace the innards of the bottom end if you don't plan on making that much power. You can also buy a 5.4 usually cheaper pre-built than it costs to put together a 5.1L and there's still more tq in the 5.4. 5.1 would be smokin with maybe a turbo or blower but NA I'd take the extra .3L and do the 5.4, much like I already did.

5.4 ftw!

Stroking is okay, but boring more than .020 and applying boost is not. So, stick with a .020 overbore, stroke it and apply boost. Many have gone this route and made good, reliable power. Going with a 5.4 will add cost and weight.
