Need to find the power

Can anyone help me out with some advice. I recently added 3.73 gears to my car along with the Max Tuner from superchips, steeda underdrive pulleys, BBK CAI, and SLP loud mouth cat back. Just wondering what happened to my power. I ran 14.2@97.55 mph before the gears and superchip and now I'm running 14.4@97.89 mph, I'm thing about going with nitrous kit from venom but before I do I would like to know where the loss is coming from?

Here is a response I just gave to the same question on another thread here:

Two things: 1st, you may have done too many things to your car at once. As a result, it is difficult to pin down the problem. Second, you are not the first guy to post slower times after a gear swap. It is harder to drive the car with the 3.73's than the stock gears. As you practice, the times will improve.

Also, be sure to compare you DA's. Your 14.4 may be faster than your 14.3 when corrected for altitude, temp, and humidity. Then again, it could be even slower.

When you say the idle is off, what do you mean exactly? I may be able to help better with some details.

As modded, your car has the potential to run in the 13's...even mid 13's, so stay with it, practice, and let's see what is going on with that idle.

The only way to compare the two different trips to the track is look at the entire time slip. I need the dates you ran and all the numbers, track location and weather. I can get the track elevation and weather off the web but you will need to post your run numbers, all of them 60', 330' 1/8, 1,000' etc. I have seen the same thing you do some mod's which in theory should make you faster but you go out and run slower. Here's a couple of things to look at:
1) Always look at your 60' time first. It is the most important number on your time slip. If you ran a slower 60' you are not going to make that up in a quarter mile. It determines the entire run. Cut a bad 60' and you'll have a bad run.
2) learn to correct your times, this will allow you to compare data from different trips to the track and find out if you are gaining anything.
3) Trap speed, your speed at the end of the run. This is a indication of power. The higher the trap the more power you are making.
You may have actually run better than you think, but you must correct the numbers to find out. Since you added a steeper gear I bet you had more trouble hooking up at the line. This will cause a poor 60' time and a lower e.t. Give me more details.

I'll be going to the track this weekend

I'll hit the track again this weekend hopefully the rain will be gone. I hope that with alittle luck it will be good to go. I'll post results Sat. night
Thanks for the info

Good luck, I hope the weather cooperates. Don't fret going slower with the new gears. It's very common to slow down at first with new gears. I spent most of this season working on my drive train and suspension. You don't need big power to run fast, just a good set up. Make use of the power your car is making before adding more or you just spin your wheels.

Hey good luck I'll curious to hear your ET's. With what you've got done and a little practice you could be putting down some pretty quick times

Ok this **** sucks ass. I ran 14.082 tonight with .070 R/T and 2.08 60'. I'm so freak'n' pissed right now. Theair is no reason for this shame at the track. I'm hook'n' up perfect everytime. No idea I ran 14.2 with the stupid Superchip program installed and took it out an ran 14.08.... I'm not very happy with this at all. Tomorrow I"m going back to the track to get more runs in. Cecil county sucked tonight tomany damn ricers. They kept on breaking and we had to stop running for 30 min at a time. I swear I"m gonna get a gun and put my car out of my misery. I should be 13.6 I'll get the time down soon but I"ll tell ya for the mods and money spent I got ****.

Let me drive your car, I'll get you a 13! ;)

Stangdude27 11-28-2004 02:44 PM

Kinda far to drive right now. If I'm ever down to Texas I'll look you up. Hpefully by then the car will be pulling 12's

Marios40thPony 12-04-2004 10:37 PM

sounds like your **** ain't tuned right, is it an auto? u might have too dyno tune it for the right air/fuel ratio, I've heard of people losing up too 15hp too the wheels using superchips and diablosport tuners without PROPER tuning..just an idea

Stangdude27 12-05-2004 05:50 AM

Ya I'm going with a dyno tune later this month. I'll also have a SCT guy with me. I also figure my transmission might be the limiting facter. I might go with a transmission cooler. I ran into this guy at the track yesterday his 02 GT was running 12.8 With weight reduction and no mufflers, Drag radials. I was very impressed with his set up. I don't think my car could pull that off N/A.
