air wistle at throttle body
I have a trick flow upper plenum BBK 70mm throttle body and cold air by BBk.The throttle body wistles and is there anything that can be done about it? Thanks

I had the same problem with the Trick flow plenum. From what I have found out, they just make that kinda sound.Drove me nuts. I took mine off after a week.Make sure the you have tightened it properly, something like 11 inch puonds I think. Good luck !!

if the flange is warped, you can also try taking them both off, and block sanding the mating flanges on both to surface them out and try to make them even. spray painting them and sanding it down is a good way to find and high or low spots. one thing ive also seen is a vacuum leak through the butterfly cross shaft/throttle linkage. it might be ovaled out and need to be rebushed. |
its supposed to whistle. perfectly normal.
|
No, a whistle is not normal. It means something isn't sealed up properly. Had the same thing happen to me when I installed a 75mm TB back in the day. The whistle was coming from the air filter, but if I remember correctly the EGR or IAC wasn't sealed up properly.
What is normal to hear with a bigger TB is a sucking sound when you get on the gas. It's like your TB is taking a big breath or air. That is normal, not a whistling sound. |
wouldn't the car wistle at all rpm including a high idle?

make a hissing sound, a gulping sound when you first hit the throttle, etc sure. and typically the sound of the hissing or gulping is from the conical air filter, not the throttle body. definately not the intake/plenum. |
If you can't stand the whistling don't ever get a procharger than.

well mine whistles and still makes stupid power for a bolt on gt. i guess the leak doesnt really matter

I'm just curious, but do you have a dyno sheet you could upload? Not trying to flame, but I think you might have a freak GT. That's A LOT of power for the mods you have. |
and it does not have a leak, it is the air by the throttle plate . rushing through the throttle plate. Said it is characteristic. and the stock one has a design for deadning the noise.

if i remember to do it in the little free time i have ill stop by my dads office and upload my sheets. i was shocked myself. i did 4 pulls. 1st pull was 259.x 2nd pull was 258. 3rd pull was 269 with a big dip in a/f in mid rpms so he pulled some fuel out and tried to fix the dip and then i pulled the 282. when i hit the 282/321 with no a/f dip i said DONT TOUCH IT. beleive me the guy tuning was just as shocked as i was. he was also using a load cell dyno that simulates road conditions. he had to enter in the bore/stroke/compression, weight, wheel/tire size, gear ratio, and all that stuff. load cell dynos are extremly accurate and he has his calibrated weekly and sends copies of the dyno pulls to the company for review. if i remember to do so ill upload it.
