longtubes

Hi, im about to buy longtube headers and short o/r h pipe, but im not sure which one is better, i dont want to spend too much money, so im thinking between MAC and BBK, which ones r better ??

gotMACH04 05-29-2008 04:39 PM

of those i would go with mac

redfire04 05-29-2008 06:43 PM

Either would be fine. I've got bbk and quality/fitment was great.

Make sure they are ceramic coated.

Well if you go with the MAC long tubes you might have a problem getting them on. I had to heat up the passenger side and bend them so the headers would go on. They were bumping up against the starter and that just wasnt going to fly...

cycu 05-30-2008 04:19 PM

thanks for help, im getting ceramic coated for sure, no questions about this, im just courious if everyone who bought mac longtubes had the same problem with fitting as MPT 1962 ??

You want them coated to keep the heat down inside the engine bay. My old headers melted the rubber around the steering shaft. You also dont want it to mess up the alternator due to excessive heat.

mpt_1962 06-02-2008 09:19 AM

has anybody else had that problem with the MAC headers hitting the starter?

I guess my thread about longtubes is invisible?

Those are new to the game and most people havent used those headers before. Most use MAC,BBK,SLP.

TonyBolton 06-02-2008 12:35 PM

Well, he said he's looking for a cheap set of headers that fit.

I put up before install photo's and after install photo's and a write up.

I'd also pass on that ceramic coating stuff. It'll just flake off after a year or so.

spike_africa 06-02-2008 02:03 PM

Ceramic coatings wont flake off, the so called high temp paint you get will flake off if you don't get them with the ceramic coating.

TonyBolton 06-02-2008 02:15 PM

It depends on the level of ceramic coating application. I would be comfortable in saying that 99% of the aftermarket headers(for our cars at least) have the REGULAR temp. ceramic coating. The hi-temp stuff is normally what goes on turbo exhaust manifolds/headers(and those are pretty much flat black for the most part).

The regular or low level ceramic coating WILL flake off after alot of heat cycles. I'm not talking about the HTS coated stuff, either.

Plenty of documentation:
