Gear/Dyno Safety

Is it safe to have gears installed and then throw it on the dyno right after? (Yes, I know the gears won't affect my numbers.) I'm just concerned about the break-in period for the gears.

How soon after, day's? I've always beleived if the the gears were installed right they won't break if beaten on durring the so-called break in period. I don't think it will hurt anything.

Its best to let the ring and pinion get to know each other for a while before you beat on the car. Dyno runs see full rpms...maybe not the best thing for brand new gears. not that anything is guaranteed to fail...im sure tons of ppl have done the same thing with no problems.

When I say right after I mean straight from the gear install to the dyno. The only reason I think it might be safe is because the way you slowly bring the RPMs up on the dyno. I wouldn't trust it if you had to rip through every gear, but as far as I know, that's not how dynos work.

I wouldn't think going straight to the dyno is a good thing. If something is wrong with the gears you wouldn't have any time to find out, you would find out on the dyno if something was wrong. Best thing to do, just to be safe, break them in. Even if breaking in is myth, it's better to not take the chance.
