General Maintenance (99-04 gt)

I purchased my 04 GT new about 3 years ago and it now has about 33,000 miles. I just checked out Ford's site to see what the general maintenance schedule was for this milage and had some questions.

I was thinking for sure changing the coolant and transmission fluids. Gear oil only because I'm doing 4.10's soon and I'm also going to be doing brakes soon.

However, Ford's maintenance schedule it doesn't list doing coolant until 100k and doesn't even list transmission fluid in their schedule. The only extra maintenance they suggest is a fuel filter at 30k. So I'll do the fuel filter for sure.

So what maintenance have you done at 30-35k? Or does everyone just go by the Ford schedule?

Don't bother with the coolant....that is pretty standard on newer cars.

I would do all other fluids at 50k.

For years the OEMs recommended every 30,000 for you trans and diff but now, they say every 50,000 or never. However, the components are still the same and no new advances in technology has made new diffs and trans different from the old ones. So, for me, I like to change those two at every 30,000 miles. Coolant I wouldn't worry about (unless the pH is way off) since the yellow stuff used in out cars is much different from the old green stuff.

Sounds good, thanks guys. I think I'll hold off until 50000 to do all other fluids. I'm doing the gear oil anyways b/c of the 4.10's and brakes are next thing on the list.

When time does come would you recommend the dealer (or somewhere) do it where they can properly flush the systems or do you all do these things yourself?

If you have an auto, get the flush. Otherwise, don't bother (I don't think they even offer that service for stick). Same goes for the coolant, when you replace it, flush it out as well.

LOL, dont I wish! Actually I just work so much(7 days everyweek) that by the time I have put enough miles on the car to change the oil 3 times Ive owned it for about 2 years. I put maybe 600 miles on a car a year. If I was made of money, I wouldnt work/so much :D

Just put 20K miles on my 04 GT. That averages 5K a year. But I still get my car serviced on average of 3 to 5 months, and I have it done at the dealership. I get discount coupons for that stuff all the time. Ford can be really funny about scheduled maintenance, if you ever need to use your warranty for something.. :argue:

I put 50k a year on my car and do all my scheduled matenance ROFLMAO
The funny part is... im just waiting to drop a 4v in it... so yeah the more miles i can throw in this car the better >.<

600 miles/year? You either work from home or you live like 2 miles from work! That must be nice. I drive 50 miles a day. Luckily on the weekends we take the wifes car everywhere so I drive about 250 miles/week.

Just dont have time to drive the toys :-( I drive 35 miles each way(so 70 mile round trip). Beleave it or not, I have the supra at well over 1000hp, the mustang at 450/600whp and daily drive a 93 ford festiva thats beat all to hell! If me and the wife(and 2 kids) go anywhere together we drive her expodition. I dont have a payment on my DD like many do, you would be suprised at how much "mod money" having a paid off DD that gets 46mpg can help!

blownstang 03-15-2008 09:27 PM

I did the coolant at 30K and transmission oil at 35k, but this is just because i wanted to. I bought the car with 24.5k and only changed the oil, so I figured it would be safe to do the coolant and tranny oil. I do the fuel filter every 10k.

Dodobird223 03-16-2008 06:04 AM

A festiva??... Damn I'm sorry dude... I think there's a cream for that...
