warranty??
 

hey i just bought a 2002 mustang gt and i got a 2 year extended warranty.
what can i do to the car performance wise that wont void the warranty??

Pretty much nothing. After-market warranties won't cover crap as soon as you touch anything.

This is what you should do.....drive the car for a while to make sure it is solid, then cash-in the warranty. You will get most of your money back. Then, mod away.

+1. if the car is stock and was well maintained, that warranty isnt all that important. Ford makes good vehicles, you will probably never even miss the warranty.

However, i DID have my mustang taken in cause the rear main seal was leaking.

but i coulda done that myself if it wasnt covered.

LOL....mine leaked too at around 60k miles. It got fixed when I replaced the motor.

what do you mean cash in the warranty

Did you pay for the warranty? By law, they have to give you back whatever portion of the warranty you do not use. For example, if you paid $1200 for it and drove the car for three months, you will probably get $1100 back. But, if you waited three years and cashed it, you might get only $300 back.

I have done this three times. The dealer will fight you tooth and nail, but the agreement is between you and the warranty company. Just call up the warranty company and ask them how much you will get back.

You can modify your car even under a warranty. As long as it can be proven that the aftermarket part did not cause the damage then you will be fine. Don't go putting nitrous or blower or something crazy like that but just stick to minor bolt ons until your warranty is done. Unless you don't care about it and can do the work yourself I say cash it in like everyone else is saying.

I've got longtubes o/r x and catback and took it in to get warranty work done. They replaced a leaking axel and a leaking valve cover gasket no questions asked.

I believe that law only applies to new car warranties and it is somwwhat up to interpretation. Look at your after-market warranty. They usually specifically say that the car can not be modified in any way.

They can tell you changed something by looking at it.

Bottom line....if you need or care about a warranty don't mod the car. That is almost as dumb as modding a car that is leased.

When they replaced the stuff on my 04 yes it was original factory warranty. However my previous ford had headers as well and they replace a leaking thermostat housing no questions asked on extended warranty (I had to pay $50 deductible).
