I am used to doing it one of two ways. On the supra just tune it myself(not feasable to drive to a supra tuner) but on a mustang have allways went to a local(sorta) tuner and had a chip burnt. However, this is where my delima comes in.
Why not go with an Xcal2? There cheap as hell used(im cheap, what can i say), hold 3 programs and appear to be "figitable" fairly easily. Why would you go with a chip like I have in the past?

i would say the majority of us on the board that have a tuned mustang uses the x-cal 2. the only advantage of having a chip is that you can switch tunes with out having to shut the car down this is good for the nitrous guys. there is a sticky about chips and handheld tuners in this forum...Chip Vs Programmer

Thanks dude, thats the info i was looking for. I dont mind having to shut the car down to switch tunes, Ill have to anyway to open the bottle HAHA

for your 5.4 car, I can whittle you out a tune file that'll run your car but you'll need to find a SCT tuner that can load the values onto a Xcal-2 or a Chip.

If you want to do it yourself (buy a SCT Pro-Racer Kit) then you can do it all super easy. All you need to do off the bat is load their standard 91octane 2v 4.6 tune values in, then add 8% fuel from 300 MAF counts on up, increase displacement to .00018 (IIRC). If you need more help, call up Rick at Amazon Tuning. He'll get you running proper. I'd get a wideband o2 sensor and gauge. www.Dynotunenitrous.com has good cheap kits. I have the LC1 and a round gauge.

As much gas as Im adding to this stock engine, Im just going to have it tuned on the dyno LOL. It seems that a flip chip is what I need, I didnt realize it took 3 mins to swap tunes with a handheld tuner.
