how would i go about a 5.4L SOHC swap??

how would i go about a 5.4L SOHC swap?? try to keep it in lamers terms im a sophmore in highschool who just got into auto shop and my teacher didnt know shit about how to do it so he said if i could figure it out i could do it in his class.... but i have NO idea how to do it or where to get what i would need. I want to do this swap because im tired of having an underpowered V-8 that gets smoked by Z28's.

please give me a list of things i would need to buy and where to buy them from i hope to do this with about 1000 bucks

also could i get a guide on how to do it once i have the parts??

thx for ur help u guys are awsome

did you see the giant sticky in this forum about it?

K... well it's simple. Tell your teacher that you've got a forum full of tech sponsors ready to help you out. Your budget is kinda low even with free labor but we'll cover that later.

First, get a motor. Then go to hiperformancesolutions.com (call) and tell them you'd like a set of their CNC adapter plates (375ish). tell Bob I sent you. next find a set of used stage1 cams in good shape. Get a 10.5' 8bolt flywheel and a 10.5" clutch for said flywheel. The rest of the job is removal and installation. There are two or three little gotchas... hood clearance (may require some support trimming on hood underside or a cowl hood), exhaust (FRPP shorties work great), exhaust (some H-pipe modification...welding required), oil pan (beating the baffles out of the cranks way), and then finally there's a little cooling line routing and tuning. Tuning should be handled by a pro and will cost every bit of 500 bucks but it'll still drive in all probablility without the tune at least for you to get it to the shop. I like SCT software and tuners but if your guy uses Diablo.. such is life.

Figure on about a 2500 dollar budget with all the free labor and some good bargain hunting. It's gunna be a m-er f-ing badazz project and I hope you keep us in the loop... IN MY 5.4 SWAP STICKY... hehe

u think i would beable to do all the labor myself?? because my teacher doesnt really know wtf hes doing

that's a pretty ignorant view.... your teacher probably knows a hell of a lot and just nothing about modular motors specifically.

Read carefully: It's just a motor swap. Any idiot with a pack of wrenches can do it. Treat your teacher with a little bit of respect or you may find yourself not swapping jack. Never know... he might be a member.

Now then.. yeah if you've got the tools and a shop manual and all the parts, you'll be able to do it. Lean on your teacher... tell him it's just a motor swap and to quit worrying.

You're all of 16... learn some respect for your elders.
