headers

who makes the best set of headers for 99-04 gt?

zigzaggthefag321 07-01-2007 10:48 PM

BBK ceramic. Long Tubes or don't bother.

Bwhipple 07-02-2007 03:31 AM

SLP Ceramic coated LT's. There are many opinions out there on what the best ones are. This is my opinion. USE THE SEARCH. As stated earlier, go for the long tube headers. Otherwise don't bother. Harder to install but a much better power increase.

spike_africa 07-02-2007 07:24 AM

any of them are good there is no one good header, cai, etc.. people just have favs. Me im cheap and i like macs cause there cheaper then the rest and fit ok and work with autos and manual cars.

BBk's are far from being the best my friend...

97_Cobra_Droptop 07-02-2007 08:22 AM

OK, general consensus is Long tube headers. I have to agree, everything I've read on the 99-04 GTs say the headers are one of the last bolt-ons you should do, since shorty headers offer almost no improvement and the stocks flow relatively well. More a necessity or FI applications, they certainly never hurt. After that, brand is more a preference than anything. If your cheap, you can go to summit for some flowtechs, but if you want that name brand that everyone respects, my preference would be SLP.

longtubes no matter what. i chose slp, top quality, but top price

ok so that's why MODULAR POWERHOUSE uses them and only them for the 99-04 GT's. Tim himself told me personally that they are the best fitting for 99-04's. He should know, being the owner of one of the best Mustang performance shops in existence.

They maybe the best fitting, but do not produce the most power. They are good for the price. The best would have to be Kook's, but they cost like $850. My rating for the top four would be: Kook's, SLP's, BBK's, Mac's.

but its well worth it

zigzaggthefag321 07-02-2007 11:43 AM

well kooks are rarely thought of when dealing with a Mustang...I agree Kooks are the best of the best.

basically MPH folks said the BBK's fit the best and last the longest and produce similar gains as all the other LT headers except for Kooks.

shit I dont even care...I have stock manifolds...I was just relaying some info I got from a highly respected Mustang-only tuner.

this is turning into a "which CAI is best" type thing here.

I'm done.

spike_africa 07-02-2007 12:04 PM

you belive a bit to much into what a shop is selling, there ok headers right there with MAC as they both have the same design.

they sell other brands as well...so I doubt there is any bias in their recommendation. wait...I forgot I could care less. lol. :topicclosed:

actually no I wouldn't...but thanks for being the rude one as usual.

I've heard horror stories about fitment issues with the Hookers... but are you using them?

bassman97 07-02-2007 12:53 PM

I got Hookers and they fit like a glove. The rear two primary tubes are kind of close to the steering shaft but they clear it. My only issue w/ them is the 2 piece design of the driver header and the slip fit collector since they aren't good w/ being leak proof. Powerwise though, I went from getting 19-20 mpg to getting nothing less than 21 driving around town and as far as highway, driving from exit 15-23 and back on the NY Thruway I went from 24 mpg to a solid 26-27 mpg so even w/ a stock engine, there is power and even torque to be made.

cool. Glad yours fit well. did they make the car louder? or just change the sound with not much increase it loudness.

Pilks 07-03-2007 06:50 AM

yeah so about the headers i should buy thanks for everything

bassman97 07-04-2007 02:25 PM

Zigzagg, they made the car barely louder since the x-pipe quiet things down a bit. However, running them w/o cats does make a difference in loudness and it sounds mean, especially at idle. I just wish I had an H-pipe instead.

1hotdrp 07-05-2007 02:02 PM

if price isnt an issue go with slp...what kind of exhaust do you have???

jonthacher 07-10-2007 05:29 PM

bbk's are a good name out there. so are slp longtubes. i am putting on a pair of bbk shorties this week along with a slp mid pipe. does anybody know if i will need to adjust my fuel preasure as well?

nope you dont need to, a dyno tune would get the most out of them.
