Does Make/Model Matter for intakes?

I was wondering if I could put a '99-'01 Cobra JLT intake on my '01 GT. Does anyone know if it would fit or what i could do to make it work? I don't want to buy it and not have it work. let me know.

get the right one from the right source or you'll end up spending more money in the long run....

In other words, yes it matters and no it won't fit...

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Unfortunately, The GT one is more expensive, and It doesnt tell me if it adds any HP. I don't know tho, GT almost sounds too plain for me.

it wont fit as the cobras have larger oval throttle body's and we don't. We have circle ones that are smaller.

The GT JLT claims to add about 14HP atleast that is what the site but I would go with the Ram Air Intake that they make first.

I found out over the years that if it says "fits 99-01 cobra" It only fits a 99 or 01 cobra unless you want to feel like a handyman and do some custom work.

they all add 1-3hp on NA cars. Don't count on a single bit more. To do so would be demonstrating gullability. ALL AFTERMARKET MANUFACTURER HP GAIN CLAIMS ARE LIES. It's just the scale of the BS that's in question from one part to another.

Stylin22 06-30-2007 11:39 AM

what would you guys all recommend I do to add a little HP or performance work or something, maybe less than $250? Or should I just stick to cosmetic things right now?

an x-pipe and catback are usually worth a real 10-15rwhp. A K&N filter will open up the top end a bit but other than that... two words:

B L O W - E R

Being totally realistic with you: Bolt-on's are crap. There are so few that are worth 2 squirts of cold piss that I'd tell you to just make it pretty and save up for a blower. If you want a real mod that will really save your life and make your car easier to pilot at the extremes of speed that it's capable of... I'd buy myself a cobra brake kit. You can get them for as little as 300 bucks complete for the front (don't even bother with the rears) and you really aren't prepared for how big a diff they make. After 7 years modifying SN95 mustangs continuously... first thing I'd do to ANY CAR.. period. Power is already there. Buy parts that will help you use it and I promise you'll be a happier richer person.

for 250bucks i would get a used h or x-pipe and go to ebay get a used or new if you have to; K&N filter then pull the stock silencer out of the factory airbox and that setup actully flows really well like red said there is little to be gained going aftermarket. You will still more then likly have money left over and i would save for a catback because well its not a mustang if you cant hear it.

You could always get gears and then save up a little and have them installed that will make a big difference in car also.

r3dn3ck 07-01-2007 09:53 AM

yeah.. gears are good. Budget 400 bones for an Xcal2 to recalibrate everything as needed. I'd recommend 3.73's for a stick or 4.10's for an auto.
