Stock Cam Specs 4.6
 
I cant find the stock cam specs for the 2000 mustang gt. RPMoutlet.com says stock "Ford" cam specs are:
lift 504/531

and duration:
239/252

Is that right? The VT stage 2 is
560/575
225/235

The duration is alot lower on the VT cam. How does that produce so much more power? Or are the "stock" specs off of RPMoutlet not correct? Little help here please...

one more thing...are the cam gears "pressed on" to the stock cam gears or will i be able to use the stock gears on the VT cam? Also, the max lift on the VT cam is .575 and VT sells a spring that can handle applications up to .580. Is that too close to buy those springs for the VT cam? 5 thousandths isnt much room to play...should i find a better spring or will the .580 work fine?

Stock durations are 192/184 I believe so the specs you got from rpmoutlet are wrong. As for springs, those should be fine. Usually the max lift that a spring can handle is usually a bit away from actual bind. As for gears, if you have a Windsor engine (giant W on block or 13 bolt valve covers), then you need to buy gears for the cam since Windsors are pressed on.

oh wow...yeah rpm outlet was way off. Well i have to see if i have the windsor or romeo now i guess. Thanks for the info on the pressed gears i didnt know that, and the springs...

Stock PI cams are fairly high lift but short duration with plenty of LSA. They make for a low red-line, great tq band, good emissions quality and a smooth idle. Puke! What a waste. I chose the XE270AH-13 from comp but that was a matter of availability and smog concerns that the 113deg LSA on the comps make easier for me to deal with.

The VT stage 2 cam is about the best I've seen for NA cars. It makes more power than all the others I've been tracking. It has a good solid overlap which is great for scavenging but blows emissions testing here in California thus I chose the XE's.

I'd look for some .600" capable springs or you could call up VT and get their recommended set but .580 has a very small clearance to coil bind on a .575 lift lilke the man said. I'd want more spring. There's no sense in running them all the way to capacity forever. That's how you break stuff.
