sct for dummies....
 

ok, so i got an xcal2, 9145A SF tuner. i loaded the 93 tune and everthng is good. but i want to use some of the end user stuff. example: spark advance, two-step...stuff like that. so what are some things i can do that you guys have done thats worked.

car stats: 03 GT 5-speed, stock motor (4.10s in shortly)

so all you guys with xcal2 dont know to really use them? come on someone has to know where to look for info at least. i've been to sct forums, but there isn't any real info over there.

there are some here who know the ins and outs of the SCT. I have one...but my tuner, Modular Powerhouse used it to tune my car, not me.

You dont need to tune that stuff, its already done for you.

well, my tuner came with a datalogging program and it has a bunch of end user adjustments. I am looking for info on what i can do with it really. i searched all over the sct's website forums and all. all i could find was a bunk as .pdf from some ryan guy at sct, it didnt explain shit. if fact if i e-mail them for help and that got sent to me i would be way pissed because it answers nothing.

do you actually know what do adjust and how much? cause if you got a tune from a tuner already, I'll bet there isnt anything left for you to safely improve on.

the tuner came with three tunes from sct. canned tunes if you will, but this datalogging program is supposed to enable the owner of the tuner to look at different variables within ECU and make minor adjustments. I am looking for anyone who has used/ has experience with it. and any advice anyone could give about using the tuner beyond just installing the canned tune.

You are going to be limited as to what you can do without having the Pro Racer Package or getting a custom tune from a dealer. The canned tunes from them already come with tweaks to the spark curves and possibly the MAF curve and such. The most important part of any tune is the MAF curve, which you will not be able to get perfect without either the PRP and a wideband sensor, or a custom tune. I mean, you can look at the STFT and see how far from 1 they are and make some tweaks within those given RPM ranges, but again, you will shooting in the dark. For spark, the MAF curve needs to be correct and then you need to make sure you don't have detonation. Then, theoretically, you can add some timing, but you might induce detonation which could damage the motor, or you may need to actually to remove some timing to correct a current detonation problem. My experience with my setup has been to remove timing from what the SCT value files call for, but everyone's setup is different.

My suggestion is, if you don't know what you are doing, don't mess with it. The canned tunes are already setup to be an improvement over stock and until you have an understanding of how the tuning process works, you are better suited to live with SCT tunes, which comes from HOURS and HOURS of testing development or get a custom tune from a local dealer who has a dyno.

If you have specific problems with the tune, then that is another issue, which we could probably help you with, or at least then you would have a specific question to ask over on the SCT forums.
