Head Swap
 

Ok Im sitting here wishing that I had a 400 HP NA monster in my stang and I am pretty sure swapping heads would be a great start. I can find the heads to bolt on easy enough but what about other things such as intake and so forth? Im working on a budget here as most of us are. But will PI heads just change out as easy as bolting them on and a new tune? I have to be missing something here. Anyone done a head swap recently? what all does it entail?
My eventual goal is 600 horses with a KB charger, just think it would be best to get the engine built before the blower is added. what should come after my heads... cams? And last... what do I NOT need to do to my engine that I will just have to change AGAIN after the blower? thanx for the help in advance!

What I can tell you is not to get the bolt ons right now. Lets take as an example a CAI. KB does not like the use of any intake thats mounted in the engine compartment, they strongly recommend a ram air or fenderwell mounted type. Go to the KB website under tech and FAQ read everything there plus read the maunal of the kit that you will be buying so you know what it comes with.

Building a 2v 400rwhp NA motor (not very reasonable) then bolting on a KB will be a HUGE waste of money.

you could always do what 3V200GT did. Get some 3V heads, a nice set of cams, and the 3V intake. I think he has a built bottom end as well, but he's pushing like 360 rwhp N/A. I believe the swap is fairly simple, you can use the stock computer and everything. I'm sure he would tell you everything you needed.

abandon this thing you call "budget". If you want less than a cobbled together hunk of junk then realize it costs HUGE money to make HUGE power.

Figure out what you really think you can feed gas to in the long term (talkin dollars per week here), plus how long in years you'll actually have the car, plus how much money you think you can manage to pour into the car before you get rid of it or wreck it and then multiply that by .05 (your probability of finishing the project). If the number is less than 4 digits long then don't bother trying for 600hp. Take the number you ended up with and divide by 1000, then multiply that time 600 and there's what you can afford.















Oddly enough that mathematical bullshhit up there seemed to work for most combinations I could test against.
