I have a 99 GT manual. and i love the car but have a couple questions. Sometimes when i floor it around a turn sometimes just a slight turn (usually when i turn right) only the right tire will spin>? Most the time both will spin and if i launch in a straight line or do a brake stand both spin, so should i be worried or is that one wheel wonder normal? one other little thing is that at ide it seems fine but every once in a while when idileing the rpms will climb up a little bit and go back down if your just sittin there ittll keep doing it. idle normal for a while then up and back down normal for a while. This seems like a great forum i hope i can get a little help here. So thanks in advance, Holmes

Im from Menominee, MI im new to these forums and the mustang community and thought i would introduce myself, just call me holmes, ill attach a pic of my stang that i love so much!:Woot:

Your idle issue may be the Idle Air Control valve. my 01 GT does that sometimes too. As for the one wheel spin...I thought Trak-Lok was standard on the GT....but maybe not in 99...I dont know.

A posi doenst always make both tires spin so when you go around a corner this is very evident on right turns when you give it gas the inside tire (right tire will spin). Its normal for the operation of a posi.

alright thanks, i thought the posi thing was normal, my bmw m3 seemed to have a little better posi tho no big deal i like this car allot better. Is my minor idle isue someithing i should be conserned about?

The Ford Traction-Lock doesn't have real high breakaway torque when new, so once the clutches wear a bit it only gets worse. I'll bet the car will still get loose if you get on the throttle turning left; it's all due to torque and how it affects the chassis. That's the whole reason you need a posi in the first place; the torque reaction actually pulls weight off the right rear and transfers it to the left rear.

yeah if i get on it to the left it always slides sideways, and it usually does for the right too but sometimes only the right will spin when going right... i figured this was pretty much normal but just wanted to be sure. Is my idle prob affecting anything worth worrying about? thanks

Some idle fluctuation is normal as the car is correcting itself. It is hard to say from your post if this is a problem or not. If your idle increases and decreases as your a/c comes on and off, this is normal for example. If the car is stalling, this is not. Overall, the idle should not hunt up and down.

You car should idle a bit high when cold-starting....say around 1100 rpms. The, it should dropto below 900 when warm.

Lots of things can cause an idle problem:

1 - Vaccum leak.
2 - Dirty IAC or problematic IAC
3 - Bad TPS (throttle position sensor).
4 - O2 sensor issues
5 - Incorrectly set throttle body or throttle body not closing correctly.

The biggest culprit is usually a dirty IAC (Idle Air Controllers). They are easy to clean. Just remove the two screws and pop it off. Soak it with some carb cleaner and then re-install.

The other common problem is after-market throttle bodies, plenums, and cold air kits. If you car has one of these, chances are the only way to fix it is with a dyno tune. Sometimes these mods cause these issues and you either just live with it, or get it tuned.

Assuming that the idle problem is not the result of a major engine problem (which I doubt), it won't affect performance.

alright thanks, yeah the idle issue isnt bad at all... i think i have a bad 02 sensor also so thats prob.... today when driving even in the wet i couldnt get it to do a doughnut turning right just one wheel spinning but goin to the left both wheels would spin no prob. even on dry pavement, on dry pavement just punching it in a straight line both wheels spin and a brake tourqe when the roads where slippery it pulled posi. so i should be fine right?
