STeeda Pullies worth it????

How much HP do Steeda Pullies help produce? are they worth getting? How much time could they help take off at the 1/4

Blue02GT 05-08-2005 04:50 PM

That's a hard question.
How much HP are they worth? 5-8 I think
Are they worth it? I'd say yes if you take into account the low price.
I trapped a little higher with mine and seat of the pants it felt as if it pulled a littler harder in the upper rpm's.
With these mod motors most bolt on's are 5-10 hp gains, other than cams 15-30 there really isn't any huge gains to be had with just one mod. You can do full exhaust, intake and pullies and gain 35-40 hp.

its worth it, if you want to go faster. every bit of hp makes you go faster, i'll take every bit i can get.

u can tell a difference once u add them. i unno how much they will help in the 1/4 mile though. probably jus a lil bit. but whatever it takes to go faster.

Install?

How hard are the Steeda pullies to install? I just got a set in but have not had time to attempt install.

How long did it take to install? Were the instructions from Steeda right on? Is there any better instructions anywhere?

If you have an impact wrench and a harmonic balancer puller it takes about 5 min.

madmatt 05-10-2005 03:24 AM

You also have to have a pulley puller for the crank pulley if Im not mistaken. Dont rush it, follow the directions as they are correct, and you wont have any problems.

dont reuse the stock bolt use the one steeda supplies. you need a torque wrench as well. get a uneversal joint for the impact gun. the one i used was too big radiator got in the way.

Well worth it!

i hope you didnt do that. the one given to you form steeda is for getting the pulley started on then you take it off and install with stock bolt.

Is the crank pulley hard to get off? I got a puller today and went at it pretty good, but it didn't budge?? I was a little afraid to really get after it being on the crank and all.

I had to use an end wrench because the middle part of the puller was too long to get a ratchet or impact on. Do I have to move the radiator to get an impact on it?

I finally got it..

There is a thick washer between the crank bolt and the crank. Once you remove that the pulley comes right off (using a puller of course). I sure didn't see that in any of the write ups on the net..

oh well..

If you plan on getting supercharged any time in the future, i see them as a waste of money. You have to have stock pullies on when getting supercharged. If no supercharger is in the future, go for them.

I've heard claims of 2 tenths in the quarter with Steeda pulleys. I don't know how true that is though.

Insidher 05-13-2005 09:38 AM

yesh its worth it ive notice a decrease in my 1/4 mile it was about 2-3 tenths i have mine set at 14 deg ... i was running about 14.2 before and with the pulleys on i ran 13.9 was the fastest but i average 14 flat i got a 99 GT coupe

The steeda pullies are a worthwhile mod in my opinion for a bolt on N/A application. It has it's downsides and upsides. I for one had to run a stock alternator pulley as with the one supplied from steeda it did not hold a good charge...downside, although it doesn't happen to everyone.

To underdrive the waterpump however improves cooling when not idle in traffic as decreasing the speed of the water pump at high rpm reduces cavitation.

All in all its pretty bang for the buck. 2 tenths in the 1/4 however I'd be a little skeptical, maybe with a timing adjuster too. But it's not out of the question.
