Got the 4.10s in...

Wow
Do got a new car?Diffrence in night and day.And It kicks ass. In fifth gear at 65 it goes about 2200. Alls I can say is it is the only way to go. It hooks up well and the pull is like 100 extra hp. You gota love it. And I smoked 135 so fast from 65 it was unreal... still had a 1000 rpm or so left easy. Best thing I've done.. OH you do shift more.

Sounds like the 4.10's are the way to go...I'll be getting mine soon...Did you have to recalibrate the Speedometer cause I just installed the new Simco White Face Gauges.

brucespot 05-07-2005 03:01 PM

preditor

That is the beautiful thing about the Diablo Preditor,if your car is a o4 then its all computer and the preditor does it all it even does tire size, rev. lemiter, top speed ect.... MAN ITS IS a whole different car now.

MineralGT 05-07-2005 03:04 PM

I have an 02 GT...I want the 4.10's but I don't have a programmer and I don't know what I'll need to do after the install of the gears.

madmatt 05-07-2005 10:05 PM

Just get a speedcal. They are like 100 bucks and gets the job done. Congrats on the 4.10s though, wish I had gotten those instead...

MineralGT 05-07-2005 10:12 PM

How do you use the Speedcals? Does it require manually removing the speedo needle?...I've had bad experiences doing that...that's why I just installed the White Faced Simco gauges last night :love7:

What parts were needed to change your gears over?

oohsoobad2 05-08-2005 01:55 AM

SpeedCals plug in between your wiring harness and your vehicle speed sensor. It an easy install, if anyone needs one PM me I just got a chip and no longer need mine.

The ring and pinion, and a gear install kit. I HIGHLEY reccomend you get the install kit with new bearings. Ford swiched bearing companys in 94 and they haven't been the same quality since. a buddie of mine had his gears put in with 40k on the car and the bearings in the pumpkin were already toast. but mine at 60k were diecent, but far over worn for that low of mileage.

I had to get a bearing kit and a bottle of posi lube the gears and 3 qts. of synthetic lube. 150 in labor.

Congrat's on the 4.10's, they really wake these cars up.

I never would of thunk..

MineralGT 05-08-2005 02:57 PM

Do you know if the shops that installl the gears can recalibrate the Speedo as well? and if so, how much do they typically charge?

TonyStangs 05-08-2005 06:09 PM

4.10's with a nice SCT 4-bank chip should make you pee your pants if your looking for bang/buck

MineralGT 05-08-2005 06:14 PM

I've actually been talking to my dad a lot about those lately...he has the 6 bank chip in his chevy hd! That thing would probably put my stang to shame.
Were gonna go looking at them at the shop he had his installed at...I just don't want to stress the engine cuz I do do quite a bit of highway driving.
I don't race much...they crack down on that in CA. I heard that the RPM's are considerably high when cruising at like 70-75 mph.

madmatt 05-08-2005 06:45 PM

Its not going to break your car with 4.10s on the interstate, dont worry about that. Its a myth, just get the gears, youll be fine. If you are worried, get the 3.73's, but youll want more...I promise.

TonyStangs 05-08-2005 06:48 PM

i have 4.10's and i do 10 miles of highway drivin daily - never had a problem , i highly recommend chipping the car the same time u put the gears in you will really deny it is the same car

MineralGT 05-08-2005 06:55 PM

Yeah...I do at least 50-75 miles a day...I have a little time to make up my mind...it will either be the 3.90 or 4.10 gears.

You can easily recalibrate a SpeedCal yourself. Its just a set off on/off switches, kinda like in a new garage door opener.

passin_U 05-09-2005 12:24 PM

mixed feelings

I have a 00 gt and i bought 4.10 gears for it, i was told my a few people that this is the way to go and they do great in a regular everyday car and not just for the track, but others tell me i am making a mistake and my top speed would be like 80-90 at 5500 rpms. I am new at this and i am trying to learn so what would i like better and what would be good with this being my primary vehicle and the track. also what should i see at the track if my best was 14:206 stock gears and engine with the new 4.10 gears

Blue02GT 05-09-2005 12:47 PM

I have 4.30's in a automatic and can go 110 in 3rd gear. I bet an manual would go 130+ in 4th with 4.10's.
If you are able to control tire spin off the line 4.10's can shave off 3-5 tenths in the quarter mile compared to stock gears.

redfire04 05-09-2005 08:57 PM

one of my buddies just got 4.10's and it's nuts!
he also has long tubes, it feels so strong!

i'm definately getting 4.10s

MineralGT 05-09-2005 09:51 PM

Damn...30 miles of freeway between home and work, Guess I'll probably go with the 3.90's, I;ve heard it's a big difference I'll only go to the track once a month or so...the rest is freeway...sucks :crybaby2:

i have 3.90's in a 5speed 03' GT and i top out at 115ish in 4th

MineralGT 05-10-2005 05:53 PM

How was the difference from the stock gears? I don't know anyone around here who has aftermarket gears so a test drive is pretty much out of the question, everyone raves about the 4.10's but with the amount of freeway driving I do...I think the 3.90's are the way to go. :argue:

Blue03gt 05-10-2005 05:57 PM

i dunno about you... but i dont like to crusie on the highway with my rpms higher than 2500rpms... so 3.90's for me is almost perfect... in 5th at 75-80 i am right around 2400rpms

in first gear its a bit easier to spin but still not a big deal... all i have to say is.. since i do a lot of highway driving... 4.10's woudlnt have been pleasant for me to crusie at 65mph to feel comfortable with the rpms

MineralGT 05-10-2005 06:07 PM

That was excatly my concern...how is the acceleration with the 3.90's, on and off the freeway?

Blue03gt 05-10-2005 10:08 PM

from a stop... acceleration is improved throughout every gear... highway also imporved as long as your not going past 120ish... cuz 5th is a dog when close to stock
