Silencer removal?

I'm wondering when everyone talks about removing their silencer on their Stock intake what exactly do they mean? If anyone has any pics that would be great. I want to get rid of my BBk piece of junk intake that I have now. I just want to put my Stocker back on with a K&N drop in.

The air silencer is a rubber air inlet tube that runs from the right front wheel well to the air filter housing. Removing it allows for a little more air into the restrictive air intake system that mustangs come stock with.

I have heard that the stock intake with the silencer removed is jsut as good if not better then an aftermarket intake. Is this true? The only problem is trying to get the stock intake pipe over my 75mm TB.

I run my GT with just a K&N filter, no silence and the filter housing cover from my Mach1 which has a big hole cut in the side (pic below). I'm happy with it. I personally don't think CAI do much better than what I have set up. With the Mach1, I put in a C&L CAI. The biggest difference I noticed was my a/f ratio getting all out of whack.

I think if your N/A, then a K&N filter should be about good enough. If your supercharged, then a CAI would be more beneficial.
