Which x-pipe?

Hi guys what is the best x-pipe performance and weight wise. I have heard SLP and Bassani make good ones. LMK

Jeremy 10-26-2004 08:34 PM

Browse over this thread some. As far as weight wise, our stock mid pipe weighs at least 50lbs, so you will loose a good amount of that if you go with an o/r pipe, as well as with a catted mid pipe because you will loose two cats. I have heard all good things about the MT X pipe, and also the SLP. I am going with the SLP due to the fact that I will have to do emission testing in 2006, so I will have to leave the cat on for that. With the SLP pipe, you can go with cats, or take them off and use the "race pipes" to go without them. Hope this helps some. The SLP is a little more than the MT but is all stainless steel as well.

From what I've read (no personal experiences... yet!) bassani is a great product if you want the best of the best but it's a bit of overkill. What you want for value is stainless steel... the whole ceramic coating on the exhaust is just one of those would be great but I ain't gonna pay for it type of things for most people.

I have the SLP X. Stainless steel, quality product, and you can switch out the cats for race pipes at will. The thing about replacing a stainless steel factory exhaust (on the '03 anyway) with anything less than stainless steel just doesn't make sense to me. And if you decide to buy long tubes sometime in the future, as I do, you don't have to buy another X-pipe. The SLP long tubes will fit right into the pipe's modular design. Some other brand long tubes may fit also, but I'm not sure about that. Bottom line, though, SLP makes a great product at a great price.
PS- Almost forgot, the SLP X weighs in at around 30 lbs., so good weight savings also!

BullittClone, how much louder did the did the exhaust get with the x-pipe? Any complaits?

madmatt 11-24-2004 07:58 AM

The SLP off road or catted version is loud as CRAP! Like wake you whole town up loud. The MustangTuning X pipe sounds awesome as well. A lot cheaper than the SLP as well.

Blue02GT 11-24-2004 12:36 PM

Bassani is expensive and will not make the power that Steeda or SLP do. I have the Steeda X pipe w/cats along with their cat back. It is made by Borla and is stainlees steel. The fit was flawless, 90 minutes to install both. The SLP is also very good stuff. If you want loud go with SLP, I did not want to "wake the dead" with my exhaust so I chose Steeda. Either way you can't go wrong.

dilo2001gt 11-25-2004 07:27 AM

I'd go with an H-pipe if you have the loudmouths. the x-pipe is very raspy with the loudmouths. also i have a BBK x-pipe with my loudmouths and i have had no problems and love it. I got the x like 6 months ago and still looks brand new plus its stainless steel and a real good product.

sultanghahtani 11-30-2004 07:44 AM

I have the SLP X Pipe and I love it. It is loud though so be prepared to wake up the neighborhood. But the look of Ricers with the fart cans is priceless (like what the F... is in your car).

How much lighter is it than the stock H?

Jeremy 11-30-2004 04:33 PM

Our stock H pipes weigh at least 50lbs I would say, I couldn't believe how much mine weighed when I took it off my 2003.

gtstang03 11-30-2004 05:46 PM

I have the bassani. I love it. I bought it used and the fit and finish was great. It is the off-road x pipe. I have it matched up with the magnapack exhaust. It is loud. But love the sound.

sultanghahtani 12-01-2004 10:57 AM

so it is a 50lb to 30lb weight reduction? Not bad. I have the stock H pipe sitting in my basement. It is heavy. Maybe I should sell it on EBAY, or paint it and make it a Pan Rack in the kitchen....

02wt5sp 12-02-2004 02:56 PM

I'd go with the MT o/r X, I put mine on a few weeks ago and love it, plus you can't beat the price.

SLP catted Xpipe is the best power adder, over 13.6 horse too the wheels

I got the catted SLP Xpipe and the SLP Loudmouth. I wonder what kind of Power upgrade that is.

Also, how does an XPIPe operate different than the stock H?

Different flow path and you get two high flow cats instead of 4 stock cats. Also you save a little on weight.

Marios40thPony 12-07-2004 08:20 AM

MM&FF magazine dynoed a 02 GT with the SLP catted xpipe and loudmouth and it gave them 22.6 hp too the wheels, which is pretty close too what i got with mine...soo if thats any help, slp is the freeist flowing exhaust out there

dilo2001gt 12-07-2004 03:32 PM

that car in MM&FF also had a few oter things done to it. It wasn't bone stock so take a few HP away but not much. I think it only had some type of after market induction.

04 STANG 12-07-2004 09:30 PM

Question do you guys know what month the article was out of and if the article is on the MM & FF site. I looked and did a search for SLp and found nothing. My friend is fixed on telling me that the SLP exhaust has no gains and that the BORLA exhaust is better. Thanks

04redmach1 12-08-2004 10:26 AM

I would go with the Roush exhaust for sound and performance. Even my cost its a lil expensive but u get what u pay for.

Marios40thPony 12-08-2004 11:23 AM

the Gt had an intake, I have the magazine...

spike_africa 12-08-2004 12:54 PM

i dont see one h-pipe or x-pipe out performing the other so just get what you like or what the cheapest is, i got my off road h-pipe for 70bucks and only had ot drive 5 mins away from my house to get it :)

spike_africa 07-13-2007 06:54 PM

Wow this is a rather old thread.

Steeda97 07-14-2007 08:27 AM

Old thread, but my full bassani exhaust is amazing.

jwarnick 07-15-2007 02:51 PM
