i am thinking about getting the Hi-Fow intake pack from RPM outlet. First off, I know some guys dont like that place because of messed up orders or bad customer service. There are ways around that, which i intend use. with that being said, im looking more for tech advice than "dont buy from them, they blow". ok the pack comes with a new 85mm MAF, C&L true flow intake, 75mm TB, C&L plenum and of course a fliter and heat shield. Its $499, which is alot cheaper than if i tried to piece it together. So what do you guys think? is it worth it, has anyone gotten it? Will i lean out?, will i need a tune? ok...post away boys.....

the 85mm maf leans em out. did to mine and added exactly 0 power. I made more power with my stock maf. All the cars I've ever seen with the 85mm maf (NA bolt-on cars) have run extra lean in the 2200-3500 rpm band if their tune hadn't been specially tinkered with to make up for it.

the 75mm tb is too big. unless you're running a blower stick to 70.

The plenum is nice. A decent mod but costs too damn much. Competitive plenums flow about the same. Find one used... any one.

The true flow intake pipe is heavy and interferes with other mods you may eventually do like strut tower braces and such. It's also very thick aluminum and holds a lot of heat in. A straighter pipe would be easier to deal with.

Any ol' CAI (no fenderwell types...they can distort maf readings) will do, 70mm tb and whatever aftermarket plenum gets you hard FTW.

r3dn3ck pretty much summed it up. You can do better mods then plenum and t/b on an NA car. However, if you must do what he said and find used stuff. Id look into the Dragon plenum. As for the intake and inlet tube. Just get a K&N filter, remove the air silencer, and leave the stock inlet tube.

I have a drop in filter already, (airhog) but no other mods except for a cat back, which really doesnt count anyways. cams would be nice, but the money isnt there, plus this is my DD so putting my car down for several days to do the swap myself is not an option. I just want to get some extra power on a budget that i can put on myself in one afternoon, but thanks for the info guys.

isnt a mid pipe more for sound than for power, or am i wrong on that.

I think uncatted versions can give you a 20 hp gain so its for both really.

expect 4-8hp from just a 2.5" catted h or x pipe. It's more for sound but it does free up a little wasted power. Not enough to justify the cost IMHO but if you want it... well then.

You want power, it costs money. You want to waste 2-300 bucks here and there on bolt-on's just to have them... your call. Fact of the matter is that you'll spend thousands on bolt-ons just to get <+20rwhp. Save up the money, put gears and cams in it, a plenum like dragon/bbk/trick-flow/C&L/Professional Products/etc..., a 70mm tb and a cobra brake kit.

If you want real power, then save up and slap in a blower/turbo/nitrous and get a nice tune. Bolt-on's used to be all there was and we all tried them and found out they produce jack for power for the money they cost. Take our word for it and go big or save the money for your retirement.
