Suspension

Wats up everybody,
Im a forum virgin first timer over here lol!! I got a '97 gt, i've been thinkin bout getting these new wheels 17"x9" front and 17"x10.5" rear, but hesitatent. Is there going to be issues with rubbing against the struts or anything else along those lines? Also i want to lower the car about 1 3/4" is that too low or im better off lowering just 1.5". I've asked around and im getting mixed messages so idk wat to do help me out over here.

17x9 up front will be fine with the correct backspacing. the 10.5 rears will probably rub a bit. You'll probably end up needing the fender lip rolled and have to remove the quad shocks (you should have tubular RLCA's before you remove the quads).

Lowering more than 1.5" messes with your suspension geometry unless you replace a lot of stuff so I'd stick to 1.5" or less.

There's a suspension forum in the General Tech section, post any specific suspension questions there (and read the stickys). Tire and wheel questions should go in the tire forum.

Sometimes 10.5 in the rear will rub on the quad shocks or exhaust. If you dont race, then you can remove the quad shocks whenever you want.

1.5" is a good amount to lower. You can do that with the Eibach pro kit or Steeda sport springs. After you install those give it a couple weeks to settle. Then take the rivits off the stock c/c plates to allow for more adjustment and see if you can get the car aligned. If you cant then youll need c/c plates. MM 4 bolt c/c plates is the way to go.
