Power out of Cams and heads?

Hi, on a 02 GT 5-speed with long tube headers, prochamber, magnaflow catback system, 3.73, tri-ax, plenum/TB, udp's, and a tune later on, what kind of HP gain should i see from a combo of VT Cams stage1 and Steen racing ported heads? I'm guuessing 50 HP? maybe i'n off but that's my guess; please tell me what kind of HP gains i should see from this combo.

Where did you hear that? They make some of the best heads for the Mustangs anywhere. There are some very reputable guys that I know who use these heads and I have never heard any complaints. I would used them w/o hesitation.

Two of their clients include Randy Stinchcomb and Ed Clark. Two of the best mod minds in Mustangs, especially Ed.

BTW, 50 hp from a cam/head package is realistic.

if you were local you would hear alot of bad stuff, trust me. for example.....a buddy of mine had his engine build there they had it for 6 months they built it from the stock block with forged internals, extremely ported heads, a very wicked set of blower cams, intake spacer, a c&l plenum and a densecharger and hit him with a $9k bill no problem he paid it but they forgot to put half the bellhousing bolts back in, left off one of the motor mounts, had a horrible tune, and lets not forget they installed blower cams a N/A car that the guy wasnt even looking for power just a sweet sound and durability with high revs. when he went back to have the stuff fixed they tried to say he took the bolts out and they wouldnt honor the stuff he wanted done!

Thanks for getting specific. I appreciate the story...too many people will lay a blast with no supporting documentation. However, that is the first negative thing I have heard.

hahaha.......if only you were local...

VT also makes ported heads what i went with them instead? What is the highest power gain i could realistically achieve?

Most head results are very close to the same. I would go VT just because of their customer service. They are great folks that put out great products.

With a good tune of that kinda set up you'll see anything from 300-325 RWHP depending on the tuners ability! :blob3:

What is the next step for power after heads and cams and the other bolt ons i listed?

Maybe a power adder, you will need to geat bullit intake to make good power as well! You might also be looking at getting forged internals!

Oh i almost forgot add a P-51 Fox lake racing intake. If this setup will get me into the mid to low 12's then i will not have to supercharge and i can be one of the few aroung these parts running low 12's with N/A

I'm local, and haven't heard any bad stuff about Steen! I know alot of guys that have had stuff done there with no problem. They have some insanely fast N/A and blown stangs. This is from what I have heard, no personal stories, but in a few weeks I'm getting VT stage 1's, 4:10's, subframe connectors, and a sct 4 position tune done there, and i'll get back with ya

Blue02GT 04-02-2005 08:04 PM

Expect 45-50 rwhp from ported PI heads and aftermarket cams.
VT ported heads are done by Fox Lake.
Fox lake and Steen both do very good porting.
